I'm glad you got your Revo's Marty. It sounds like there are differences depending on the Firestone or Ford dealer you talk to. I talked to an Ex. owner last night that couldn't get anywhere with Firestone because they wanted to increase the size of the free tires, some dealers won't do it because of the recall and possible liability issues.

Anyone already have Load Range "E" Steeltex tires installed on their X? We bought our 2000 X used (7.3 PSD 4x4) over a year ago. I believe the tires are original, but the sidewall clearly states that they're Load Range "E". Anyone else run into this? I guess I'll have to fork over some dough for new tires...

Just our suped-up version of the old station wagon!

I just got the Pirelli's put on my X and there's a huge difference. I now wonder how the Revo's would be. I must say that I'm quite happy with the Pirelli's. Feels like a new car to me. Much smoother and better handling, but I would imagine any new tire would feel better than 36k mile old tires.

Surprisingly, my dealer told me that I have to go back there after 500 miles so that they can re-torque the lug nuts down.

jeeez.. I made a deal with local firestone to swap for revos; but for $49 each! Any suggestons for negotiation? Maybe one of the 2 approved replacements costs more so the difference could be reduced.. Ill have to check out pirelli vs BFG costs..

I really want the Revosand wouldl ike to have 285's... but at $49 I probobly wont try for 285's too or it will even more!

any ideas?

as always
Thanks

W. Titus,

I wouldn't pay $49 extra/tire for the 265s. Some have gotten them for free. Around here they are a $18-$32 upgrade. I paid $35 ea. for the 285s. Try checking around a little more.

I have a 2000 excursion which I love. I'm researching tire replacement due to the recall. Considering the Michelin LTX M/S. Don't do any off road driving. Want something quiet with good wet/snow handling. Have never been happy with the way it handles in the snow; traction is horrible! Anyone with experience with these tires?

I'm not sure what ice and snow is, but I'm running LTX M/S's and are really, really happy with them. They are very quiet and have really good manners.

I got a new set of Pirelli Scoprion AT yesterday from the dealer. So far pretty impressive. Over 100 miles at 70+, I find them to be much smoother, quiter, and more secure than the Steeltex. Have not gone offroad yet (mostly sand and mud here), or encountered any rain. I was a bit concerned about treadwear, as I have had Pirelli's in the past on other vehicles. Always a great ride, but limited treadwear. These seem much harder (the mold tits are still on after 100+ miles).

I went to Firestone first. They were a pain, said they had to inspect the tires and it would take at least an hour before they could get the paperwork done and order the tires. The dealer was fast. in and out in less than 10 mins for the order, but the service manager refused to give me any size or brand choices, even when i offered to pay the difference. I was skeptical about the Pirelli's, but decided to take my chances. He had them in the next business day (Saturday order, Monday morning call that the tires were ready). My only complaint is that I have no idea what the proper tire pressure is. The recall letter said they would replace the sticker on the inside of the gas flap. My dealer did not. The sidewall says 80 PSI (I need to buy a gauge that will register that high!). I called the service manager for more info, but am still waiting.

I have some serious running ahead - over 1000 miles on the highway next week, and will hit the sand a bit. I'll update you next week.
