Hey Cool...
the important thing like Ken stated is the weight carrying capacity....
some D rated tires will carry more weight than some E rated tires...
so if your X weighs say 8000 lbs wet and each tire will support 3000 lbs at max pressure, than you have a margin of safety of about 4000 lbs (assuming a 50/50 bias front to back)
so there is some leeway, just look up the weight carrying capacity of the tire at the pressure your going to run and check it out...
good luck....
(but remember - $300 is not much when you're talking about an 8000 lb BUS going down the road for hours with your family in it !!)

I did check while I was at Firestone. The 285 tire will support slightly over 3000lbs per tire. I don't remember the exact number but is was over 3000 because we compared to my current E tire and it was aboout 400lbs TOTAL less.
And I am willing to pay $1000 if that is what I need to do to protect my family. That is why I am looking at the highly rated and not cheap Revo Dueler. But if those smarter than I can educate me on my options maybe the $300 solution is the way to go.
Let me know....

Not smarter
but if the tire will support MORE weight than your old tires....
and you're comfortable with the size and look - GO OR IT !

| Quote: | | Or should I buy the newest Dueler AT Revo at $876.00 installed. |
Cool, you should be able to do a lot better than that for the REVO. TireSavings.com has the 285/75R16 for $159 apiece, plus about $100 to ship to the Chicago area. That's about $736 delivered. I'm sure you can get them mounted and balanced for under $140. And I know I've seem them a little cheaper than that elsewhere.

Not sure if any of you have heard of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta
but I have found what I believe to be a great tire from the same company. http://www.nokiantires.com/newsite/tires_popup.cfm?id=36
Looks like some good tread with many more sipes than any other tires I have seen for this vehicle.
From what my sources tell me it is made in the U.S. by Cooper tire in Ohio for Nokian Tire's North American market, . I'm going to get a set installed this Sat. at a cost of $145 each (installed, mounted, balanced, etc.)

I havea set of 285/75 16's Destination M/T's on my 96 Ram. They are great tires and I have tried them out in some nice fun mud and thats were they are the best. They are quiet, for a mud tire, dont compare A/T tire quiet to M/T tire quiet. They hum, especially at low speeds, and at a roll you can feel the lugs cluncking on the pavement. Dry traction is good and wet is good also. I got them because my Ram is going to become my offroad ride, for everyday and somtimes offroad I would go with the Duellers wich is what I have on my X, I like the ride of them much better than the M/T's |
