Hello All,

Just got my harness from suvlights.com and I have a few questions:

1. Are you guys enclosing the relays. My first time in a car wash and my headlight stay on because on of water exposure.

2. Is anyone running both high and low beams at the same time.? Can the Silver Stars handle both beams on at the same time without the bulb exploding.

Thanks
Clayton

Sorry guys...I already answered number one. The relay needs to be mount upward to allow draining and overall water protection.

Any ideas on number 2?

Thanks

Oh Really ???
I just laid my relays down inside the open cavity and zip tied them so they wouldn't bounce around !!!

Hmm, The SUVlights guy told me they were sealed units when I called him about my High and Low beams being switched ?!?!?!?

Best go look at that

I put my driver's relays in the space right beside the battery. The relays where on their side and exposed to water coming in from the space between the fender and hood. After I dried the relays out no more problems. So I when to suvlights.com for more instructions and here is what I found.

How should I mount the relay for the wire harness?

When mounting the relays, wiring should always enter from the bottom to the relays, this allows moisture to escape (drain). You should also never tape or try to seal the relay (per Bosch's recommendation) since doing so will corrode the contacts on the interior of the relay.

My plan is to use a "T" bracket and use the battery holder mounting screws to provide a relay mount point to keep them upright.

I haven't figuare out the passager side yet. Also, I have sent a question into Sylvania regarding driving both high and low beams at the same time. I will update you with their answer.

cheers

Here is what Delilah Jones at OSRAM SYLVANIA in the Automotive Lighting Division had to say.

Thank you for your inquiry.
What you are trying to accomplish is a very bad idea. We do not recommend running both filaments with any of our 9007 products.

Several things to consider...
1) Premature high beam failure. High beams have less life which is usually okay since they are used much less than low beams. Running both simultaneously will result in premature high beam failure.
2) Possible bulb wall failure. Excessive heat can cause the glass to bulge and fail. The lamps are under high pressure and the excessive heat can cause the glass to soften to the point at which it begins to flow. This would make a mess out of the car's reflector.
3) Possible damage to the car's reflectors (e.g. outgassing). The reflectors have been designed and tested to function properly with only 1 filament lit for an extended length of time. The extra heat could very easily cause the plastic within the reflector to outgas and fog the lens from the inside. Whether this would happen or not depends on the particular reflector.
4) Illegal - The beam pattern produced when both filaments are lit would most likely be illegal.

Thank you.

Just completed the install of the SUVlights.com harness and relays.
I have posted pictures in my album of the home made relay mount and water guard.

All in all the harness fits nice and the headlight are very brite!

Cheers

Even with the six lights on the front of mine...
I still like what the harness did for the headlamps !

haven't decided on a programmer yet ?
Man if I wasn't sold on it yet...
went to the strip today with Choctaw Bob and it made a believer of both of us
