In the past 2 months, there have been 5 different occasions where I have gone to start the x, and the starter did not engage. i of course waited for the glow plug warning light do go out, and afterwards, the starter would not engage. It sounded like I already had the motor started, and then proceeded to crank over once more.
not happy about it, can anyone tell me what their thoughts are?

Mr. Loke,
The started did not engage? Was it a rattling noise or a whistling / whooshing noise when turning the key?
Rattling noise--> Starter hitting the flywheel but not grabbing the flywheel teeth (grinding). Might indicate tooth/teeth missing either from starter or flywheel and or out of alignment.
Whistling whooshing noise--> Solenoid not extending to engage with flywheel. Might indicate bad solenoid.
Under warranty?

You noticed the enhancements huh! I spent some time writing down what I've done and finally put to screen in a well organized format.
Thanks for noticing.
My delay in responding confuses most. I'm starting a new Performance Diesel Shop and can't find time to sit down and type as much as I should. Today has just been slow.
BTW- I ran into a problem that describes your orgional issue here. It was the starter hitting the fly wheel making the noise you discribed. Some how the alignment was out and we fixed it with a couple of shims.
