Another choice is Doetsch Tech shocks.
The DT-3000's were tested, I believe.

They scored VERY high in a shock comparo where the Excursion was the test mule.

Well, I've put about a thousand miles on my Edelbrock shocks. They're VERY impressive! I was towing a 1500lb fiberglass camper last week, and the coupler jumped off the hitch. Thank God I had the X and not the 92 Toyota pickup! Anyway, I got to the side of the road and got the trailer stopped on the safety chains. The trailer hopped all over the road, and the X didn't move a bit even tho the trailer was jerking on the safety chains and wagging like the tail of a happy dog.

The trailer was undamaged save for the pigtail being ruined, and one safety chain ground off. The X was undamaged. I had the coupler replaced and towed it home this week without incident.

I suspect that the outcome may have been much different without the new shocks!
