I'm replacing the alternator ..could someone give me info on how to loosen belt remove and replace alternator ? appreciate your input,peterf

There should be an idler pulley in there somewhere to loosen the tension.

A counter-clockwise pull on the tensioner nut is enough to rotate the tensioner and loosen the belt enough for removal. Use a 18" breaker bar, at least.
It is quite easy.
