I have a question if anyone has experienced this. I have a 2003 PSD 6.0L with 8500 miles, every once in a while, when I start it, it acts as if one cyliner didn't fire(glowplug??) and I have to give it fuel and it will smooth out. Is not necessarily only when it is cold, it has done it when it has just been driven also. Since it is so intermittant, I am hesitant on taking it to the dealer.

Any thoughts on this one???

Also, don't know if this is realated in any way, but my usual fuel economy has been 16.5 mpg however the last two fill ups it has dropped to 14.9 mpg (same driving patterns).

Texas_Behemoth,
Welcome to the forum.... First thought that comes to mind is one or many fuel injectors are not right. Some 6.0L have had problems with this and you should have your dealer look at it. Take a look at this web site:

to educate yourself on possible causes before taking it to the dealer. This will help your garage pin point the problem.

Also check this http://www.intellidog.com/dieselmann/60bulletin.htm There are a few TSB's that might be relevent.

Lucky for me, mine's still great! I'm about to change the oil for the first time so we'll see what changes that might make.

I checked out that link:

Very Cool!

I am still searching for an answer. It didn't act up all week until today at lunch and it did it again. Could it be related to me changing the oil? I did just change the oil not too long ago.

I had the same syptoms, and a few more. Ford ended up replacing 2 of my injectors (why they didn't replace all 8 while they already had it torn apart is beyond me).

Here is what I told the service desk:
Rough idle when cold
Hesitation when accelerating
Sputtering when coasting around 40 mph

They road tested it with their diagnostic computer hooked up and found #3 and #5 injectors were "missing" and "dropping out". they kept it overnight, and supplied a loaner Taurus, which reinforced why I will never go back to driving a car. You just can't see around all the massive SUVs out there.

I changed mine for the first time yesterday. Used Amsoil 15w-40 HD Marine and Diesel. SO far it's smooth as silk. Well, as close as a diesel can get to silk
