Stephen,
You are not the first X owner to have trouble finding the Ford installed connector. Rest assured it is there. Remove the fuse/circuit breaker panel on the lower left - under the steering column.
Next - looking forward the connector is on your right - behind that depression(about 1 x 4 x 2 inches deep) in the lower part of the instrument panel.
There other posts that address this also - a few months ago.
Other X owners can expand on this for you.

More specifically, look to the right of the steering column, tucked behind some minor structure ... almost in line with the heater controls, but lower. Hope this helps. |

Do what Richard and Landyot said and also look for a grey connector. I went through this a few months ago. It's also a PITA to get the coupler connected - especially if you have large hands like I do.

I was looking for this exact same connector on my 2000 PSD Excursion tonight! I found the same color wires up under the dash (cut fom the factory, no connector)...red, black, white, blue and one more that had some tape over the end...It was blue with a white stripe. Any idea what that wire is for?
I plan on splicing my brake controller in this weekend to those 4 wires that are the same color as the ones on the controller. I'm just kinda' stumped on that one spare wire. |

Jamey,
My 2003 has the same setup (cut wires) but the correct connector is on the other side of the steering colume. I don't know what the "cut" wires are for?

Thanks for the quick reply, Richard!
Those wires are connected to the same wiring harness as the Diagnostic test Connection under the steering wheel.
However, I do see a connection, when you take off the panel under the steering wheel, to the far-right, inside another part of the frame of the dash. It looks like an 8-point plug-in, but I just glanced at it, tried to pull on it...it wouldn't budge. I guess it's mounted to that part of the frame. I'm trading my Voyager controller today for a Prodigy after reading some more posts in this Forum. I'll take another look at that plug in this evening. The adapter plug for the controller @ NAPA was a 6-point rectangular plug, if I'm not mistaken.
Somebody should post a pic of this mysterious plug and post it for the world to see!!! |

Borger, eh? I dated a girl who lived in Amarillo many years ago. That part of the world has its own natural beauty.
Oh, and welcome to the site.

'Course, Borger is the only place I have seen black snow (around the Copolymer plant). My dad lived there for several years while working for Southern Union Gas. I learned to water ski on Lake Merideth.

Damn! Small world, huh!
The Carbon Black plant is still black and Lake Meredith is about dried up!
