"Long time listener first time caller" I am having a problem with my 2000 excursion limited. It is the 4wd powerstroke model. I hear a squeel when I turn right and apply the brakes at low to medium speed (less than 25 mph). It only happens when I turn and apply the brakes. It sounds like a school bus braking, that loud reverberating squeel. I replaced the front brake rotors and pads and the noise is still there. The rear brakes look good, lots of pad, no grooves or anything in the rotors. I do have a pull to the left when I stop quickly, still there too after the rotors and pads. Any sage advice as to the problem?

Thanks

Maybe you're pinching one of the squirrel's tails when you turn right and brake? I'm glad my V10 comes from the factory with mice. Shorter and less furry tails.

I wish I could be of more help but I have no clue as to what the problem could be. Good luck.

Did you apply any anti-chatter liquid to the back of the brake pads? It comes in a bottle or tube and is applied to the pad backing plate. It keeps the pad from vibrating in the caliper which causes noise.

Is it coming from the front or rear?

When you do brakes on the X, make sure to polish down your slide pins and thouroughly lube up the slides with siliglide, or similar high heat silicon lube. The lower pins on the caliper are known for getting road grime and sticking. And, like said above spray the back of the pads with anitsqueal glue.

I did lube the slide pins and I put the shims back in the calipers on the back of the pads. Did not use the adhesive on them though. It is hard to tell but it sounds more like it is coming from the rear than the front.

thats why it only happens when you turn. Have you checked the rear brakes??

The drivers side in particular?

Id jack it up, yank tires check out brakes and run the axles back and forth, check for anything ugly.

Jay,

"Squeel" when turning can be caused by belt slipping on Power Steering Pump drive pulley - not too likely with serpentine belts but a possibility. Limited slip axles can chatter on turning sometimes. Are you out of 4 x 4 and are hubs unlocked??

These are thoughts other than brake pads.

Yes the hubs are unlocked. I was able to spin them when I had it up for the fronts. I don't think it is a belt, it definately is coming from the rear of the vehicle. If the limited slip is making this noise wouldn't it do it whenever I turn, not only when I turn to the right and brake at the same time? I will pull the rear brakes off this weekend. Could the left rear grabbing be causing the pull to the left as well?

Yes, to the drivers side brake.

No to the limited slip, it would "chatter" "Vibrate" a bit under acceleration around a turn, not squeal.

and when it dies, it dies. If your rearend was dead it would bearing squeal under accereration or deceleration, not specifically in a turn. That would be a high pitched bearing squeal, not a brake screetch.
