When doing 80mph from PHX, to northern AZ we run from 2000 feet elevation to 7000 feet in about 110 miles, lots of steep inclines and mountains.

After a recent ford trans flush and the install of my SCMT my trans temp actually lowered from where it was 6 months ago. I consistently run at 145 degrees, never above, even deep in the turbo up hills.

Only when you kick on the AC does my trans climb to a steady 181 degrees. This is not good, i need to run an external cooler for my trans, as my AC will be on for next 6 months straight out here in AZ.

So, anyone have any advice for an external cooler? This weekend I had planned on doing the install, any insight and help would be appreciated.

I love the SCMT, uphill at 80mph 10psi, I have almost full pedal left and now pop off over 20psi. Its a rocketship.

I haven't purchased one of these units yet, but plan to. (Unless someone advises me otherwise.) From my searches on the web, these looked like a quality product: http://www.perma-cool.com/Catalog/Cat_page05.html.

Just my $.02

Jared,

I was just checking that site out again and noticed the have an external replaceable filter for the trans too. http://www.perma-cool.com/Catalog/Cat_page25.html

I didn't see that before and thought that was pretty slick.

Jared,

I installed a Tru-Cool Max that uses a bypass valve when not needed so it's not used. I'm normally running less than 140 degrees except when towing.

When climbing with my boat, I see the gauge creep up to 160 degrees and than drop big time and level off at 145 degrees. I checked the manual and find that the bypass valve kicks in at 150.

This unit gives you 40,000 BTU's of cooling. The highest rated tranny cooler made.

Take a look here- very easy to install took me a little more than and hour.
