Scott, I do not own a PSD (yet) so take it for what it is worth, eh...

When I do get my PSD Excursion I always said that I'd get the SCMT (Superchips Microtuner). Easy to use as far as I'm concerned...

BUT Diablo has always won the horsepower wars so it made me hesitate a bit BUT Diablo just came out with thier own! It has 4 different settings and looks to be a bit better than the SCMT. Check it out over at www.ford-trucks.com in the Excursion forum.

All I can tell you about is what I know about... but I knew the stock engine tune was 'conservative' at best on the 7.3 PSD...lethargic is a better description... after a little research I decided on the Superchips Microtuner from Ford Truck Enthusiast... Got the 1705 which has the code reader built in... At the time, it was the best for MY application... Didn't want a chip - too permanent..

*****************
The SCMT will make a WORLD of difference for your performance, shifting, etc... makes it a much more enjoyable truck to drive... especially when the rice burners annoy you by flitting around your tires and you have to use some go power to get away from the little gnats

Chose the SCMT because of it's ease of use...Everythings done from the drivers seat!
It will do the 60 HP Tow Safe mode or the 80 HP mode and can be set back to stock in less than five minutes...

My truck and the 80 HP program exposes the limitations in the torque convetor if you do a full bore accelaration from a stop (TC seems to slip and you have to let off the throttle to allow it to 'catch' and then it CATCHES)... but from a rolling start or while already under way --- WOW !!!

It's probably my weirdness, (or it may be that I used to ride motorcycles all the time and always want an 'out' when driving) but a pet peeve of mine is when some doofus decides he needs to run right beside me in the next lane or some rice burner thinks his fast sewing machine needs to push me such that he is right under my bumper where I can't see him.... In the old days I would slam on the brakes for a sec just enough to light the brake lamps and pitch the rear end up as in a panic stop which usually scared the rice out of their you-know-what... but I've mellowed some so now I just push the throttle a bit and @ 50 or 60 MPH when you decide to go, it GOES !!!
Usually accompanied by stares trying to figure out what's in the beaast when they finally catch up

Good luck with your decision and Hope this helps !

Ive never had a problem with lethargy in mine so I am wondering if they do something different stock wise for Canadian bound excursions.

If I recall I paid $335 to my door for the 1705 Microtuner... and worth EVERY penny
but you'll have to check...
I may have mine for sale - only had it 4 months and used three times... works fine but I'm getting a new 6.0 liter and it won't work on it...
Make me an offer and we'll try to hook you up...

Shameless plug:

I have my SuperChips Micro Tuner 1705 on eBay for $290.00 including UPS 3-Day Shipping

Also selling my K&N Air filter:

I found a guy in Miami seeling his Excursion stuff before he turned in his lease. He has a DiabloSport "Revolution" chip programmed at 120HP for $150.00, which I bought. I called PDQ (distributor for DiabloSport) and the guy there told me that the Revolution hasn't been released yet and he couldn't understand how I got a hold of one. I had called to find out if it would fit my particular EEC, but since it is a four bank chip, it fits any of them (so I learned).

Well, I installed it and WOW. Blew the SCMT away. Much greater power (and lots of smoke, I might add) at full throttle. Shifts seem a little squirrly, but maybe I need to get used to the change in throttle response.

Anyone heard of this chip?

Scott
i have found that the shifts will always be off because these tuners know nothing about how the trans should work.they are after horsepower, they always jack up line pressure(pressure that is normaly regulated by computer after all the sensors have reported.)i just installed a TTS chip and i am very happy with the power.i am working on making these chips compatable with the transmissions.i posted this on the other board, nobody seems interestd so i will stay here with the diesel people.thats what i do.
