I installed the Hellwig bar some time ago and love it once it was broken in a all the nuts and bolts seated properly. I pull a heavy trailer often and noticed the rear springs sagging more that they used too. I was told once by this local off road shop that I could get better results (eliminating body roll) with the Firestone Air bags. I did not go that route but now seemes the need for the bags is here. Has anyone every run air bags and the hellwig anti sway bar together. My plan was to remove the the sway bar but I might not if the two can work together.

Advice is very appreciated.....

Hi David,

I've got a 2000 4x2 Ex Limited. On it I have the Air Ride bags in the back (with on board compressor), plus the Helwig rear anti-sway bar, PLUS Landyot's radius bars. Needless to say, they all fit fine, and they all work together perfectly. It's a shame that the Factory didn't set up my Ex like this when they built it.

IMHO, go for it. The combination (plus better shocks) really improve the ride, the handling, and most importantly the safety.

Good luck,
Randy R...

Have heard good results from some buds with the Timbren rubber helper springs. They are less than $200/axle and take about 10 minutes to install. They really help without making the ride harsh.

and my rancho 9000 9 way adjustable shocks let me firm up or soccer mon my ride

The Air Bags gave the lift in the rear that we needed for towing. They made the rear a bit bouncy, but we managed that by upgrading the shocks to Edlebrocks. The new shocks stiffened up the ride a bit and enhanced the overall control of the Ex. The rear anti-sway bar flattened the rear end when turning, and increased turn-in responsiveness. Basically, the rear anti-sway bar made the Ex handle more like a car than big, yellow school bus. We then added Landyot's Radius Bars, which solved all of the rear end wiggle we felt when driving over bumps and irregularities in the road - we no longer have to fight the steering wheel when driving over these bumps/irregularities. All in all Landyot's Radius Bars finished the rear suspension of the Ex perfectly by forcing the rear axle to move in a "radius" and not twist and jerk - they solved the rear steer problem in the stock suspension.

I don't recall the cost of the air bags - maybe $350 installed with compressor. The anti-sway bar was like $150. The shocks were like around $25 to $50 each, or so. And Landyot's bars, I think, are around $250.

I hope that this answers your questions...

Regards,
Randy R...

Thanks.

I am still debating between an X and an F-250 SD. One of the things I prefer on the Super Duty is the way it feels. It feels "lighter on its feet" and more responsive overall.

Would you say these mods make the X feel more like a Super Duty pickup?

Beats me... I've never driven an SD. The mods make the Ex more sure footed and increases overall responsiveness, but I can't say how it compares to a stock SD. I know from reading this foum that the stock SD comes with different springs than that Ex...

Sorry,
