I just purchased a new 2004 Excursion limited. Unfortunatly it had the regular mirrors instead of the tow mirrors. I found that I can order them from Form for around $300.00 My local dealer wants another $200 to install. Is this something I can do myself? Has anyone tried this before?
Also I need to add a Break Controller. From what I read I am going to get a prodigy. Since the wiring is already there am I right in assuming all I have to do is mount the controller and using the Ford wiring harness plug the controller into the plug provided?
Thanks for all your help
David

First, welcome to the forum. You'll find a lot of good info here. And along that line, the tow mirrors (AK T-T or moose-ear mirrors) will replace your dog-ear/paddle mirrors with minimal problems (mostly related to wiring connectors). That subject has been addressed a few times, and I suggest you scroll through the pages to find more relevant info. The Prodigy is a great brake controller (I'm running one), but you will need to buy an adapter harness ... one end gets hard-wired to the Prodigy unit, and the other plugs into the Excursion wiring harness. Again, the particulars have been discussed at great length on some other post(s) here at SuperFord. I don't mean for my comments to sound like I'm "brushing you off" ... but the info you can find here is much more detailed than what I can type within the next hour or two. |

I too have a Prodigy and love it!!! As Landyot said get a typical Ford harness and wire the brake controller to the pig tail then plug it in. The mirrors are a direct plug and play. Buy the mirrors then remove the door's2 screws and lift the door straight up. 4 bolts and un-clipping the plug and the reversing the same for the install...Good Luck...It's Easy!
