I have a 2000 XLT 4x4. I have been getting some clunking noises since installing a helwig anti sway bar and bilstein shocks. Strange, but it sounds like it is under my feet when driving. I read somewhere that the 2000 are known for having some loose body bolts and perhaps tightenging may make this sound go away. My thinking is that maybe the anti sway bar / shock install has excerbated this probem and I want see if any body bolts are loose. Problem is, I have no idea where or what I am looking for regarding body bolts. Any hints. I know this may not be my problem, since I started noticing after the shock/ antisway bar install, but I have not been able to ID the cause of the noise yet so I thought I would give this a try. Thanks for the help. |

Check out the bottom of this page: http://www.fordexcursions.com/what_to_look_for.php
..."Popping noise under driver's seat (2000-2001 Excursions)
THE PROBLEM
You hear/feel a popping noise underneath the driver's seat, right about where your feet rest.
THE SOLUTION
You either have a loose body bolt, a loose front sway-bar link, or both. Tighten the loose bolts and the popping noise will go away. "
Hope that helps.

Thanks, I think this page is where I first found out what my problem may be. I would check them to see if loos but I still don't know where the body bolts are or what they look like. Are they bolting the body to the frame, should i be looking for bolts on the frame then? Any pointers? |

Did not find any loose underneath but I did retorque my rear hellwig sway bar and that seemed to solve the problem. Now if I can figure out a way to get my automatic lockout hub to work again. |

Ok, I found the Hockey pucks, but I don't see how to tighten the bolts? It appears you need to get to them from above???? |

They should have the nuts attached to the studs coming down thru the body mounts. I will look at mine agian, but Im almost positve you can see the nuts you need to tighten that way!! I think the nut si 9/16 or 15-16mm Im not sure which.
