If you haven't removed your roof rack cross bars on the Ex - consider it since it WILL wear the paint off...

Yes, all four. I removed mine within a couple months of buying the X upon realizing they actually touch the paint, and have since sold them on eBay. I don't care if there is a soft rub-strip with the OEM crossbars, they will still rub all of the road grime into the paint. There are aftermarket racks that do not contact the paint, such as Thule and Yakima, and they can be mounted in the OEM roof rails. I'm modifying two pair of Explorer crossbars (making them wider) so I'll have the Ford towers. This is yet another project that's been moved to the back burner for awhile ... just like wiring in a set of the mid-90s E-Series tail-lights in order to have amber turn sigals at the rear. |
