Anyone know if the X is wired for a controller. Have little knowledge here but I guess I need to get a special controller to actuate the electric brakes on my large trailer. I was just wondering if the wires were already there, under the dash or by the fuse panel or something, or is wiring required?
While I'm at it, suggested source for service manual? I've got the 2000 Limited V10.
Any other mods worth persuing for a vehicle that will be towing a 7K # trailer 20K+ miles this year?
Sorry I can't remember your login, but someone suggested adding a tranny cooler. Sounds like a good idea, better safe than sorry. Any suggested models and/or places to purchase? Is a tranny temp guage worth the trouble?
Any suggested suspension changes? Sway bars, air adjust?
Thanks in advance! |

Jack,
It is a piece of cake to install a brake control. It is pre-wired, all you need is the pigtail (mine was in my glovebox). If you pull the panel off the dash (under the steering wheel) on the far right hand side of the opening you will see a white (I think it was white) connector that is not being used. That is what the pigtail plugs into. You simply need to connect the wires from the brake control to the wires on the pigtail (I forgot which goes to which...should be in the instructions) plug it in and mount the unit somewhere. I have a 2000 Limited 4x4 and mounted mine at the bottom of the dash plastic right next to the opening. As for a service manual, evilbay (ebay) has them on CD all over the place. Hope this helps, the place I bought my trailer and brake unit from wrote down the wire diagram for me...as far as what color to what color.
Good Luck.

Funny, I was just researching brake controllers today. I ended up ordering a Tekonsha (sp?) Prodigy. I took off the fuse cover and there was the gray female plug, in an almost impossible place to reach! After about 15 minutes of scratching my hand and getting frustrated I finally snapped the pigtail in place. Boy, it should not be that hard. Anyway, now I'm waiting on the controller to get here. Then I'll be ready to roll....er, stop.
