How do I getthe side mirror heaters turned on? The button which turns on the rear defroster works great, yet this last ice storm I couldn't get the mirrors to defrost. Any help in the trouble shooting would be great. Nothing in the owners manual.

The LH and RH heated exterior rear view mirrors are set up in parallel with each other.
They are not in series with the rear window defroster.

If the on off switch is not iluminated, it "might" be a good indicator that there is a 15 Amp fuse gone in the central junction box. This same fuse just happens to be part and parcel to the mirror heater circuit. Both the rear defroster and the mirors are fed thru a 40 Amp fuse in the battery junction box but this is not likely the culprit since you have power to the rear defroster. IE: its more likely the 15 amp fuse.

One other posibility is that the connector (C228M C228F)is either disconnected altogether or not connected "and" properly locked. IE: the Locking tabs should be in place and flush. The wire colours should be DG/VT (dark green/purple).

If you put an ohm meter across the female pin 14 to ground you should see a resistance of some sort but not infinite indicating an open. This will allow you to determine if either of the two heaters are open, although it does not sound like thats the problem based on what you have mentioned.

If you can find the plug, measure the male plug pin 14 to ground for voltage. With the switch on, you should have system voltage present. The plug is located on the far left side wall panel under the dash close to the floor and there is a handy ground point screw next to it on the wall.

Have fun

Dave.
