Based upon input from you kind folks, it seems that the most common installation is via the 3rd light. Being female, I have lots 'o questions:
1. When you do this, do you need some sort of extension for the antenna (Roady2)?
2. When I loosen the screws to the light cover, do I then run it exposed into the rear or do I use the existing wiring harness that runs near the light?
3. How do you physically get the wire under the headliner, as others have done?
4. Once the wire reaches the front A frame, is there a way to hide it from the headliner as it reaches the unit at the dash?
5. Can you tell I have never done anything like this before?
6. Any other pointers?
Thanks!

You will need an extension wire for the antenna. Mine is routed from the back ecxept I ran down panel beside behind front passenger seat then under the seat to the center console. I chose this location due to the fact all of my sound system hardware is under DVD player in console. In this location I barely had enough wire.
I didn't go through light though, I have mine mounted here:
And ran the wire under the weather stipping then under headliner:
Then just fed it along headliner and interior panels then down door weather stripping to floor, then to console.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Doug. The photos really help, especially in that your location for the unit seems to be perfect. That location is basically an area where there is no competition for real estate.
Never having installed anything like this before, while I was at the dealership yesterday, I asked them how to run a wire under the headliner. He went though all these macinations about popping off the center rear top panel, the sides, loosening the many bolts hidden under the plastic pieces in the headliner, taking off this and thats, that it seemed like this could not possibly be how you folks did it. It was a lot of taking off and putting back on to be able to do in under an hour. Is there some trick or some specific area where you run the wire where you do not have to go through all this?
I also want to be able to run an audio line from the XM into the factory installed rear DVD system's audio, which means that I need to get a wire up there anyhow. This is because even though the Roady2 will transmit wirelessly, the audio quality is far inferior to a direct connection.
Thanks!

I didn't have to remove any panels or the headliner for my install, just alot of tuck and hide along the edge if the headliner and panels. I am guessing to get wiring to factory DVD unit you will have to at least partially remove the headliner. My DVD and surround system are all aftermarket and in console so I did not have that problem.

I considered mounting the XM to the center console as shown above but I was afraid something would spill on it from the cup-holders.
Here's my mount:

I posted a picture in my registry showing my XM location. The only thing it interferes with is the aux. power port but I can still access it easily.

Doug,
Where you mounted yours turns out to be the best spot for mine. I notice that you did not use the mounting bracket that came with it, and my guess is that you made your own, right? Any pointers?
Thanks,
