Now that my X is lifted 4" I want to get larger tires. On the stock 16x8 wheels I know I can go to 33" without a problem(Thanks Birdman) but what does that translate into in std sizes? I now have 265/75-16 and from the top of the tire to the bottom of the tan moulding i have10.5" There is easily 4-6" between the tires and the fenders and the bumpers.
Are 33"s 285, 305, 315 /75-16? What fits the stock 16x8 SAFELY? Should I look at new wheels? If new wheels are in order I don't want something with the "offset" look where the tires hang way way out of the wheelwells.A little is OK.
Someone please give me an education!

Thanks for any insight guys.

Scott

PS- the truck is 2WD and there are pictures posted if a visual may give you all some ideas on tire clearence. Just click my name as my registry is not yet complete.

OK Scott here goes...
285/75/16~~~~~~33-10.50-16 8 inch rim min.
295/75/16~~~~~~34-11.00-16 8 inch rim min.
305/70/16~~~~~~33-12.50-16 8 inch rim min.
315/75/16~~~~~~35-12.50-16 8 inch rim min.
325/70/16~~~~~~34-13.00-16 8 1/2 inch rim min.

I am running 33 12.50 (305/70/16) on 16x8 Eagle alloy 101's
Goodyear wrangler at/s load range D 2950 lbs per tire
I ran the above mentioned tires on the factory 7 in rims for almost a year with NO problems( check gallery)

I will be going to the Nitto Terra Grappler in the spring....Either 305/70/16 in E load 3590 lbs or 315/75/16 in

For starters, the stock wheel is 16x7 and not 16x8. Your choice of tires may have just shrunk some.

I am running 305-70R-16-E tires on 16x8 Panther wheels having same backspace as the OEM wheels. Tires are a bit "more meaty" looking than the stock 265s, tires do no protrude out of the fenders, and there is no rubbing at standard ride height. I got the Panther rims new on eBay for $75 each.

Make certain when you go shopping for wheels that you get the 8x170mm bolt pattern and NOT the ol' standard 8-lug pattern (I forgot the DBC). I still cannot understand why Ford changed the bolt pattern. Until the SD trucks came along, practically all 8-lug wheels were interchangeable, regardless of manufacturer.

flyfishinguru - You're welcome.

birdman - "Proof read?" ME? Did you ever notice on one post where I said my brake calipers were mounted behind my rear bumper? There's something here for everyone ...

BTW, I just did a tire size explanation on the FTE website. Someone asked which was wider ... 285-75R-16 or 285-70R-16?
