Hi all,

Haven't been a long time reader since I just got my X last week (03 V10) and followed the forum for several weeks before that... However, I did a little bit of searching and was unable to find anything about Pirelli tires. My X came stock (so I've been told), with Pirelli STR 265 / 75 R16. These are labeled as Mud and Snows and are classified as Load E tires. Living in MN and having (choosing?! ) to endure our winters, I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with these tires. My towing is limited to a 4 horse trailer and 29' Travel Trailer (GVWR 8,000 lbs).

My, albeit limited, experience with Pirelli's is on high performance / classic vehicle's used during the summer only.

Any help would be appreciated. TIA!

Keith

Keith Welcome to the X site!!!

Found this on your tires "Tirerack"
Quote:
The Scorpion STR A and Scorpion STR tires are Pirelli's premium Highway All-Season tires that were designed to deliver the Stability, Traction and Ratings (STR) appropriate for today's light trucks by adapting their performance to the needs of sport utility vehicles, light duty pickup trucks and 4x4 vehicles. The Scorpion STR tires are designed to combine a quiet and comfortable ride along with ease of handling and year-round traction, even in light snow

Doesn't look good for anything over a couple of inches at best!! But with a 10 ply "E" load tire it will handle towing.

A couple of suggestions if your going to tow with the "X".
1. Helwig rear sway bar
2. Good after market shocks(factory stink.)
3. Air up tires to MAX pressure allowed
4. Contact Landyot on his Radius rods

Good luck and post us a picture or two. We also have a "new" log section so you can keep track of maintance and money spent on mods or repairs.

Keith,

I have the Scorpions on my 2000 X. They were brand spanking new when I bought it 3 months ago. The tires seem to be fine but that's all I've had on so I wouldn't know any difference. I haven't had them in the snow yet obviously.

Well, I guess that was no help to you at all,

Eric

Thanks for the info. Over the last couple of years, a "few" inches per storm is all that mother nature has provided . However, her day is coming and so is the snow In any case, I s'pose I'll try the Pirelli's for a season or two and go from there....

As far as the suggestions, I guess I'm going in reverse order. #3 and #4 are done, and 1 & 2 are going to have to wait until the wife settles down on purchase #4!!!! She tends to get a little when I start replaceing things that are "like new" (even if it makes it better). Hmmmm, maybe the topic of a new thread? Ideas on how to "sell" accessories to the SO...

I researched tires for three months before purchasing Dueler AT Revo load range E. Out of thousands of purchasers reveiws I could not find any negative feedback on these tires. I purchased a set of 265/75/16 E tires. They are the best tires I have owned. I drive my X all over the country towing and they are excellent in all conditions. Especially rain and snow. I just came back from Redwing, MN from a job at Prairie Island Nuclear Plant. Check out the link for these tires. Look at the customer ratings. I agree with them all. I have had several of the compared tires (including Pirrelli) and none of them come close.

I've had my X with the Scorpions for 13,000 miles and towed my TT from Washington state down to Arizona and across to Virginia. I didn't have any problems with the tires. I didn't encounter any snow, but I hit some gnarly rain and I had no issues at all. Hope this helps!
