Hello,
I would like to remove the second row captain's chairs in my 2000 Limited when I need to impress my friends and family with how much I can haul. I have two questions:
1. What size torx bit is needed for the four bolts holding the chair to the floor? I have a T-45 that isn't even close.
2. Is the nut underneath welded to the body? (I hope.)

Jeff - (1) While I cannot say exactly which Torx bit fits, this sounds like an opportunity for you to go buy the assortment-pack of Torx bits. Investing in tools is exactly that ... an investment. Besides, over the long run, the assortment-pack will cost less than bits bought individually. (2) All seat mounting bolts I've run across (in numerous vehicles) have "captured" nuts underneath the bodywork, including those for seat belts Now, my question: Don't those seats fold out of the way? Removing them sounds like a lot of trouble just to impress someone ... unless you really need the extra carrying space. |

I've got a lot of tools and a couple of assortment packs of Torx, Square Head, Philips, Flat, Metric, English, etc. All good quality stuff (Craftsman, Husky), but the largest available Torx I have is 40 (I said 45 before). I've looked in a few stores and none go higher than T40. Thats why I'm asking about the size. I guess I could try a large flat head, but I'd hate to mess it up.
In my 2000, the second row doesn't fold away.
ps. I'm getting ready to help the sister-in-law move. Just want to have all room possible.

Just thought I would pipe in here, Ive got the 2nd row bench, and it folds away, and I took the 3rd seat out, and I will tell ya what, I had over 2k in the truck itself, and its unbeiiveable....Im very impressed with the functionality of my Ex. I had a 98 F150 before, and believe me I miss my pickup, just cuz of the height restriction. But the pure beef of this truck is far beyond anything I thought I would every need/want!! I moved pretty much my entire house with mine and I couldnt have been happier!!
Just my .02, I wish I could help ya with the 2d rew seat thing!! You wont be dissapointed at all with carrying things with your X.

I want to say it is either a T50 or a T55. I know that www.mcmaster.com has all those sizes and more.

The bolt is a Torx 55. I bought the bit at Sears Hardware for $5. It fits a 1/2 inch socket. -Bucksfan. |
