Hello All,
Just got my '00 Excursion 2 weeks ago. Drove to Tuscumbia, Al. to get it. No I had never heard it before either, but it was a good bang for the buck.
Here are the specs if interested
Limited trim, full leather, 4x4, v10, Red on Parchment, 90k. Extrememly well taken care of. No service records though so started her off with a transmission and differential flushing.
Now to my question. Plain and simply she sounds like DSL. To me its very restricted. I am currently on a tight budget and found several Flowmaster 40 mufflers on Ebay for a reasonable price. I measured my inlet last night and its 2.25" does that sound right? ( and the biggest muffler I think I have ever seen ). I am located in Ga but due to the X's size there are no emmissions regulations for it. I would like to remove my Cat and stock muffler and go with the FM40 single out as saving cash is the objective here. Anyone removed their Cat? I understand that the O2 sensor is sometimes located around that area, and if it were affected I would simply re-tap the test pipe with a fitting, but does anyone see any potential issues form this setup? Think it would sound nice even with a SO? I just sold my '00 F150 with the FM40 Dual and 3" tips, man it sounded great, but can't come up with the $300 to do it again. BTW, I had the work done at Meineke on Jimmy Carter BLVD. Those guys do the best exhaust work in ATL and were the cheapest at that. Look them up of you need some work done.
TIA
Cooper
( I also posted this on the ford truck enth. forum , hope not to offend )

My 00 V-10 sounds the same, its normal...Im also running the 4:30LS rear end, but that shouldnt matter, Im running a Gibson catback system and it frees it up some, however, I think that headers are the true ticket to this motors potential. But Im in your boat, I dont have 6-800 bucks to drop on headers, but I am considering upgrading yet again to a Banks Gas performace system. Ive heard lots of good things about it, so we will see, but the V-10 sounds much different than a V-8 under power. But idleing it purrrrs like a kitten with just a small hint of a rumble. I like my Gibson, its got a single in and Dual out 2.5in turndowns, (it was on it when I bought her), but I LOVE my X!! Exhaust will make that truck come alive, and also look at eventually going with a cold air intake also! Good luck and keep us posted!
