I finally had some time today to try and install the SD fogs that I bought many months ago. Well, it did not go well.

1. I found no mounting holes in the bumper. Did they actually change the bumper in 2001 when they added the fogs to the Excursion? I know that several other members have done this install. How did you attach the mounting brackets?

2. Do I really need to drop the bumper to get the lights in place? I pulled the grill, but there is just no way to get the lamp assemblies slipped in behind the bumper. I even took the lamps off the brackets but could not get the lamps behind the bumper.

i also have a 2000 x

they do not actually mount to the bumper, but to the wall behind bumper, i looked at a newer one and found exactly how they fit, i did not remove bumper, but did remove ( if i remember right ) the licesn plate ,

it was tight but did bolt up fine, hardest part was fishing wires for lights,

did yours come with wiring harness, mine did not and went o ford for wiring, they wanted to sell me a the complete engine harness ( lights incorp ) for $800, another guy at desk said it was smae bubs for a new F150, and he had the connectors and i had to make up my own harness from that...

Thanks, Glenn..... I actually tried removing the license plate holder (actually broke off the little plastic fasteners ) but I still could not get the light assemblies into the cavity. I will stop and look at a truck with the lights and see how they mount. I did not get the wiring harness. I plan to build my own. I've already bought the relay and wire, but need to order the connectors to fit the lights. I will also upgrade to the Silverstars.

I have a 2002 Excursion Limited. I had the fog lights and removed them to put in a street scene bumber insert (plus I already have enough off road lights without the factory fogs). I could not figure out a way to uninstall the lights without removing the bumper. Mine attached to clips that were attached to the back of the bumper or the back of the bumpers brace. I can't remember which, but I know that there were clips that sheet metal screws screw into.

Just out of curiousity, are the stock fogs decent enought to buy or are aftermarket lights better (for the price and for daily country driving, that is)? I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something to help see the deer!

At 45 watts, the fog lamps are pretty anemic, but street legal. Other members of this forum have replaced the stock bulbs with 65 watt 9005 Sylvania Silverstar bulbs. They are MUCH better.
