I had viewed some posts awhile ago of amp/sub setups used for the Excusrion. Now I can not locate them. Hopefully someone can help me out.
I want to keep the stock head unit on my 2003 Excursion Limited, but I want to get some bass, but keep the cost minimal. Any amp/sub recommendations and vehicle location would be appreciated. I recall most people shoving the amp under the 2nd row seat (drivers side) and saw some people mount the subs in the rear doors. What needs to bne done to prep the door so it is sealed? Is it possible to shove a sub under each side panel in the rear cargo area?
Any help would be appreciated.

I just bought and installed an infinity basslink T in the X. My biggest concern when looking for a set up was that I keep as much room in the cargo area as possible. The infinity can be mounted to the back of the third row seat. It sounds great and is only about 4 inches thick. I plan on installing quick release set up so that I can take the third row seat out with the basslink attached if I need to haul anything. Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the info. It looks like the Basslink T is backordered @ Crutchfield. THis will probably be the way I go. Thanks again for your help.

Mike,
I dont know what you mean by "some" bass but I found that there is alot of space to fill with sound in an Excursion. The basslink just didnt do it for my tastes. Dont get me wrong, I didnt want a Ghetto Thumper, I listen to alot of jazz and I wanted low end sound quality. I ended up with 2 12" Infinity Kappa Perfects with an Infinity Referance 610 amp. I built a sub box that goes behind the rear seat. If I need more room I can fold the third seat and move the box up. Also easy to take out all together. I mounted the amp on the back of the box. I did use an aftermarket head unit but the amp does have speaker level inputs that you could use. I am VERY happy with this setup. Great sound quality, fills the X with bass, and I can get loud when I want to. PS...a picture of it in my gallery. |

Mike,
Nice idea. How did you remote the hookups for your amp? Did you just tap off the second row speakers? Nice looking truck!
Cheers

I replaced my factory radio and used the RCA preamp outs to the sub. I have heard that guys splice in to the rear panel speakers for the amp input. |

I put in a kenwood amp and a JL stealthbox (with a 10") sub in the center console. You lose most of the storage in the console, but there are no speakers or boxes exposed. The amp was mounted behind the panel that hides the rear A/C. This leaves everything hidden from view. |

I believe that the amp is 180w. It sounds fine -- has a lot of bump if you want it. The only thing is that if you have ever had a sub and it was in the back or a trunk, it will sound different at first since you are so close to the sub. There will be very minimum time difference in the bass and the rest of the music, instead of the (little) difference that you have when the speaker is in the back or the trunk. I first had this installed in my suburban (don't ever get one -- it is a pile of junk) and for the first few days it sounded different (not bad) since I was so close to the speaker.
I would never change back to the rear speaker placement as I feel that this sounds much better. The bass, mids, and highs come together seemlessly. |

I too have the JL stealhbox..it rocks...espically if you have alot of power on the sub. I used a 5 channel Crossfire amp with a solo sub channel around 250w and it really did the trick. My tahoe had the same 10"JL with a smaller amp and doesnt sound 1/2 as good as the Excursion. I will post pics of the install later...amp is where the spare tire used to be, strobe lights front and rear, cell phone mount etc. etc
