Well, I think we have my transmission problem resolved at a cost of $3000.00.

After having my 03' X's 4R100 trans replaced for $800 (25% deductible) within 5 minutes she, the trans, fired a check engine light. Called the service department regarding the problem and they were too busy to take me back in. This was Labor Day weekend and I planning to go fishing, so that trip was out! The truck was out of commission for 3 weeks prior so I’m going 2 months with out a fishing trip.

Took her, my X, back to Ford on Tuesday waited for 2.5 hours to hear that nothing was wrong! OK ^$*@%^$! I knew there was a problem so I went back to the dealer I purchased the truck from and first thing they came up with error code P1744 Torque Converter Failure. At the same time my truck was in the shop the service manager got a call from a Ford engineer not to service a truck (mine) if it were to show up.

Well, go figure. Now I have documented proof there is a problem but one dealer says there isn't a problem and another says there is and I have an engineer that has black listed my truck due to over size tires that the dealer put on!!! How do you like that!!!!

Come Thursday, I take a trip to Level 10 transmissions. Hook up with Sam the manager and we go for a ride. After a couple of minutes with the scanner he finds there was no pressure being built up in the tranny to allow the tranny to shift properly. The outcome, the tranny needs to be rebuilt from scratch. How about that, we need to have a transmission not even a week old, rebuilt again.

Pat Garrett, and Sam really know there stuff, the tranny was down and pulled apart by mid morning and back in and running Friday after noon.

While pulling the unit apart, 3 of the clutches where completely burnt and the planetary gears were ready to go. Sam said at the rate the tranny was in, I probably wouldn't have been able to drive the truck much more than a couple 100 miles and the tranny would have been rendered useless.

So, now I go after the dealership and now starts the fun, I'm in the process of suing the dealership and Ford for the problems. I have enough documentation and data to win plus damages. To boot I have one of the best built transmissions know to man.

That sounds like total BS on Ford and your dealerships part. So with the larger that stock tires there trying to void your warranty which is the extended Ford plan? I had a turbo replaced under the factory warranty with 32's and nothing was mentioned of the Ford installed AR rims and Goodyears.

Being how the first rebuild lasted so shortly I would guess it was not dynoed to specs. A few months ago I ran into a guy with a 7.3 powered 03 F350 that was on his fourth tranny at 26K miles, all fixed under warranty. His first tranny was rebuild then the third time it was brand new and now that one has been rebuilt. He said his 99 F350 diesel was flawless at 220K at trade in.

When the first dealership said there was no problem did they test drive it and run codes?
Good Luck!!!

Yes the dealer did take the truck out but did not check the codes saying they didn't have "authorization" to do so. What crap!

The tranny was in for the same problem several months earlier and the Tech said it needed new at that time but Ford didn't approve the replacement all they replaced is the solenoid. Funny, when it's out of warranty, no problem on replacement!

Transmissions that come into Ford are stock piled until 1-2000 trans are ready to be rebuilt and they bid out to the CHEAPEST bidder to repair.

I was told by Level 10 that it looked as if the rebuilder didn’t do anything to my tranny other than clean it. They usually only replace what needs to be replaced and leave the rest. You could be getting a tranny with 100K miles on it with a mixture of new and used parts. Going with Level 10 I know it's new through and through.

I guess I’m better off with the tranny now with Level 10 as they call it a BULLET PROOFED tranny.

I don’t want to rely on Ford service anymore as they flat out lie about issues they cause. They should have specialists to do specialized work and most don’t.

Don,

That's unreal...one thing I can stand is people dropping into CYA(cover your a$$) mode, let us know how you make out with your case.

Good Luck

On the F250 the tranny died at 83K and now the truck has 168K and so far so good. I paid $2000 for the unit from Ford and thought the tranny was completely redone by a local tranny shop, but who knows. If the tranny makes it past 100K with the work it gets I'll be pleased.
