Same problem...sold only in the USA. I guess I'll stay with the BFG Rugged Trail for now and drive down to the US sometime next spring and upgrade.

I've been looking into tires, too, for the new rims I want to get. Here is the dilemma I have with the tires: All of the tire sites claim that 265/75R16, load range D, are the stock tires, yet mine came with the same size, but load range E. I like the load capacity of the E tires, and I also like the stiffer sidewalls associated with the E tires. Unfortunately, one of the rims I like only comes in 17x8 and I haven't found a 17" tire in the load range E. The other rim does come in 16x8, and tires are easy to find. To make my decision even more difficult, my favorite tire (BFG All Terrain AT KOs) does not offer a load range E in any size that I would consider putting on my truck. Ideally I would either put either 305/70 on the 16" rim, or 285/70 on the 17" rim. They are both 33" tall, but can't be found in load range E.
Am I being unreasonable by not considering load range D tires? |

Kinda.
Look at the weight the tire can carry. The higher load range will have more plies and of course, be a stronger tire. But there are load range D tires that can hold as much weight as a load range E. It isd brand dependant.
I don't want to start the tire recall thread again but you'll do just fine finding a tire and wheel combo that meets or exceeds the weight carrying requirements of your truck.
Just keep the tires properly inflated.

I agree with Ken on the above post. The tires i posted above are mostly d rated tires. I know the 265 is a E rated tire as is the 305. But if you look at the numbers they are all close in numbers. I tow a 8000lb camper with Goodyear d rated at/s 305/70/16 on a 16X8 rim with no problems (knocking on wood/head)

Scott,
As it turns out we are in the middle of a big move from Ottawa to Toronto. The campsite around here (Ottawa) are nice, lots of hiking, offroad biking, etc. However in Toronto or just south of, you have Wine country.....if you like wine you can't beat it. We go to wine country 4 times a year. That's one of my problems today moving the 600 bottle cellar. I'm on the drink 4 bottles a week program .
If you come up this way let me know.... thanks .... |
