1/2 ton he must be referring to the F150.

The Excursion is on a Superduty platform but less the suspension for a 8,000 pound truck.

To explain further....Ford designed the X with soft front springs and they sag with the weight of our close to 8000lb SUV.

A stock f-250 (stock w/V code springs) have a full 2 inches more suspension travel that our trucks and weigh almost 2000lbs less.

Our F250 with the V codes was quite high even with our X with V codes so that weight adds up for sure!

Ok guys, I need some clarification.....

I am hearing that Ford chose to put different springs on the X so that the ride would be "softer" for the "soccer moms" and the like. I know some of these comments were slightly tongue in cheek but I do want to avoid moving to a truck like ride.

By going to V codes (same as F-250) will my ride become stiff and truck like? Why or why not? Isn't this why Ford chose not put them on the X?

I am not four wheeling and do 50/50 city/hwy driving and want the best smooth ride for my money under these conditions with a grill guard or bumper replacement.

After going from the stock D code springs to the V codes our Excursion rode like a Cadillac starting at that point

Immediately noticable once we got on the freeway from the shop

The upgraded shocks helped almost as much

Ok...called my Ford dealer service mgr to order the V code springs in prep for buying my Ranchhand front bumper replacement for my 2003 Limited 4x4 X.

He first asked if it had the "leaf" type and of course I did not know. Initially he was unable to determine a labor cost as he could not find V code replacement on the system for an X. He said it was a differnt spring. I then told him to check the price of replacing V-codes on an F-250 because it was the same. He did and he found it. Labor about $150.

The service mgr then connected me to the parts dept. to order the V-codes. I basically got the same response from parts when I asked about ordering. They stated the system did not show V code springs for an Excursion. I then also asked him to look up a 2003 F250 and use the V codes for that. He found it immediately and said the fronts would be about $150 total for parts. So about $300 total for front V codes installed.

So first...did I tell them the right information?

Should I be installing the F250 V codes on my X?

Do I only need the fronts or front and rear?

Is this price reasonable at a dealer?

If your Excursion is a 4x4 it has leaf springs.

I think you gottit down pat,the V codes will go fine on a V10 with a full replacement bumper, the rear set most get installed if they tow alot often otherwise a set of F350 blocks with U bolts will give you added height for a quick fix.The price of $300 parts and labor sounds like a sale to me.

Yeah when the dealer says V codes wasn't available for Excursion my first answer in my head is no shot sherlock

OK Almost there!! Now for the last part. You will need 2003 f-350 four inch block for a extra cab short bed!!! This block has the taper to it. You will also need the 4 U bolts for the said part. This will be the last part for the X to sit level. With the V codes you will sit nose high. The above mentioned parts will give you the leveled look. Look for good set of replacement shocks and be ready to be amazed on the difference of the ride
