Hi guys.... I am trying to find an inexpensive way to add BASS to my 2004 Excursion. I hate the idea of having a mile of wire branching off between amplifier, battery, head unit, subwoofer, crossover, etc!
I want a STOCk look, and a STOCK setup to keep it simple. I want to keep my stock 6-disc in dash stereo (I love it). Does anyone know if the stock stereo has an RCA output for a subwoofer?
Here's my idea....... some of you may LAUGH! Tell me what you think:
In my house, I have a Sony subwoofer that is hooked up to my surround system. It has a built-in amplifier and is hooked up by only one RCA subwoofer input cord! It provides LOADS of bass yet it only cost me $99! I LOVE IT! I seems that it would be awesome to use this in-home subwoofer to add bass in my Excursion. If I were to add a decent AC-to-DC converter to my Excursion, I could "plug in" the Sony subwoofer to my Excursion for power. For it to work, though, I would need to find out if the Excursion stereo has an RCA subwoofer output slot.
Does anyone know?
Does anyone have any opinions or experience about this idea? If it works, I could have GREAT bass for less than $200!...and in a small box!... and keeping a stock look! THANK YOU for your help!

CHPmustang is correct BUT I don't think anyone makes an aux input adaptor available that is compatible with the ford in dash 6 disk changer. You may want to google logjamelectronics. They list a ton of adaptors for fords. Hope this helps.

Stang Hauler(cool name) Yeah the FRDN-AUX will work with all 20 pin connector inputs on the back of the single CD/Cassette & CD6's 99-2004 models. If you pull your CD6 out you'll find it either being a series 815 or 868 which is good for the PIE.
I've confirmed this with the retailer several times,I think he's getting abit annoyed

Thank you guys for your advice. You really helped me! HOWEVER, you have to clarify something for me....
I understand the back of the stereo having input slots (20 pin, etc), for a CD changer or something, but that is for INPUT. But shouldn't connecting a subwoofer to the stereo be hooked up to an "OUTPUT"... since the subwoofer is NOT sending anything TO the stereo, but the stereo is sending OUT the signal to the sub?????
Bottom line.... is that port JUST input, or can you use it as OUTPUT for a sub?
THANK YOU THANK YOU!

I don't remember a whole lot about high end stereo but can't you just take the audio outs of the stereo run them into a crosssover(if that's what it is) then out to amplifiers with Subwoofer in/outs?
I could use a refresher myself

Wow... I could use a refresher myself, too! The sub I want to use is a Sony home theater sub with a BUILT-IN amp, so I am not sure about the crossover specifics. I understand what you are saying, though. HOWEVER, the sub I want to use connects to the stereo source through ONE simple RCA plug. So, that's where my trouble is.
I assume the speaker outputs on the back of the stereo are "wires" and not RCA. That's why i am trying to figure out how to get an RCA OUTPUT from the back the stereo itself. I REALLY appreciate your help! That's why I love these forums.

If anything you may have to hack into the raw speaker wiring then route it to a crossover then out to an amplifier with speaker & Subwoofer outs.
I used to be into that stuff somewhat some 14 years ago but my memories of it are dusty
If you haven't pulled the stereo out of your dash for inspection I can save you a little time by checking out my website by clicking my name to the left
Some of my Excursion friends have done some trick stuff stereo wise lemme try and get their photo albums to share with ya for more idea's

Jarrett,
I have done what you are asking about. For $150 I had a tube subwoofer placed in the back. It is a 10 inch and is strapped down so it can be easily removed if need be. I would reccomend you dump the factory door speakers. I replaced mine with 220 watt Kenwoods. It sounds great and I still have my original factory deck. I must warn you the factory deck loves to stick CD's. I remove mine with a thin piece of metal with double sided 3M tape. Works like a charm. Visteon makes upgraded factory units if you want to pay for that. Good Luck!
