Just got under the truck for the first time today and noticed three things I have questions about:

1 - There are two hard rubber "hangers" mounted under the truck along the center line. One is located under the cross member at the transfer case, the other is located towards the rear prior to the gas tank. Nothing is attached to these so what are they for?

2 - I was under the impression that the 2003 model was suposed to have a rear sway bar but mine doesn't, obviously I had the wrong impresion...right?

3 - There seems to have been something mounted to the underside of the frame at some point a couple of feet in front of the rear tires. It looks like something was bolted there because the paint is sort of worn off and a rust stain. Almost as if a frame cross member had been bolted there or maybe the anti sway attachments to the frame. Nothing is there now, am I missing something?

The hangers were for some "vibration" weights. For some reason the earlier models had horrible vibrations at certain speeeds. I guess these weights were dampeners. The whole problem is usually with the driveshaft so why Ford didn't just fix the problem in the first place is beyond me.

As for the sway bar....lots of people have had the same experience. Don't know why but it was said that all '03 X's would have em but they don't.

No idea on what may have been mounted on your frame.

Hope that helps!

Rip, per question #3, I have similar marks on my X. I can't imagine what was there. At first I was worried about it, but now I don't think about it any more. I got mine used, and assumed someone had something under it. Since yours is new, maybe this is something done at the factory. I just don't know.

Anyone else have these marks?

Thanks You-all!

What's the largest size tire I can put on the X before a lift kit/springs are required? 285's? 315's? etc. etc. with the stock rims!

Hmmmm....just thought about those marks. Could it be from a lift that puts the pads on the frame?

Just a thought.

Our '03 6.0L 4x4 buld date 04-03 has a rear sway bar, but it's not nearly as big as the hellwig I put on our '02 7.3L 4x2.... I would guess it's a 1 inch bar at most...

I'll probably swap it out for the hellwig...
