Hey Guys. I pulled out the stock 6 disc changer and put in a new head unit. I went to put the old 6 disc unit into a friends truck and it comes up with "disc error"...and thinks that all slots are full. Is there some sort of tricky anti-theft dealer only knows about code or sequence that needs to be hit to get the thing back to normal? If not I'll tell him to just scrap it, but the thing worked perfectly fine before I took it out. |

Not ot be a smart aleck but are you sure a CD is not stuck in there? I had to send mine off before with that exact error. I took it apart to retrieve my CD's first. When I looked inside the lift mechanism for the discs is connected by these puny rubber bands to drive the mechanism. I had one that had snapped. However, I still get them stuck and get that error. I took a thin flat piece of metal-thinner than a cd-wrapped with 3M double stick tape and pulled the stuck CD right out. I wish you luck and hope this helps!

Went from an '01 X-ltd into an 01 F250 superduty...but I had the problem even before we tried to put it in his pickup...I left 4 discs in it when I first took it out, so I had to plug it back in to get them out. That's when this all happened. |

That's interesting more or less So it comes up with an immediate error when you plug it in or just when you go to add a CD?

When I triy to add, play, or eject. All 6 circles on it have number in them, indicating that there are 6 cd's in it, but they're all out. First it says "initializing", then I get the error. If I try to load it says "slots full", try to eject it says "select slot", then you select a slot and it says "cd error". |

The J1 16 pin power/speaker harness "should" be the same between the two trucks, but something tells me an event of shifting or shock might have occured between the two trucks(that's just what my mind is telling me)
Possible to crack it open to see if anything's hung up or stuck somehow?

OH yeah...we've had that sucker completely apart and found nothing. He's just going to call a dealer tomorrow to see if there's anything that can be done. Otherwise it's headed for the boneyard! |

Matt, you can look up Visteon on the web. They make that exact after market units as factory except they have all the updates. It is likely from what I read that one of the Belts in the transport mechanism is broken. If you go through the dealer-expect 200-250 to fix. Visteon alternative is much better IF you don't have extended warranty coverage.
Found the link

see if that looks a little familiar. |
