Has anyone ever heard of a way to display instantaneous gas mileage in addition to the average MPG? I've had this information availabe on other vehicles and was disappointed not to find it on my '04 Ex.
Is there an easy computer mod or some programming trick available out there? It would be advantageous to see what throttle settings/speeds are the most beneficial. |

The only way I heard of will not allow you to keep the "average" calculation. One fellow said he simply reset the onboard calculator while he drove at various speeds. Also, don't take those numbers too seriously. I've found that my overhead display consistently says I'm getting 4-tenths better than what I calculate.
For what it's worth, my V10 4x4 got over 17MPG "displayed" while cruising along for several miles at 45MPH right after a fill-up and a reset of the calculator. |

Scott - Consider yourself blessed because from what I've read here, and elsewhere, the overhead display "typically" provides an optimistic MPG reading. Your X seems to be an exception to the rule. |

that info depends on when you reset the computer, if I do it at the pump and then drive to empty its pretty acurate and shows average MPG at 12 city/hyw but if I wait till I get on the road and up to 65 set the cruise and run to empty it shows 17+. My truck shows 604 miles to empty and it ajusts itself as I drive, at the 1/4 mark it drops 100 miles off + - and gives me the real miles to empty, I have had it down to 1 MTE and I made it to the pump.
BTW I thought this was interesting, my Wells Fargo debit card cuts off at $50 at the pump. one time I athorized the pump and ran it up to $50 and then reauthorized the pump and topped it off, after putting to two reciepts together it totaled 56 gals of gas pumped??? is that wierd or what.. it only has a 35 gal tank right????
It really is all about size!!!!!! |

To be honest, I am very happy with the reading on my on-board MPG readout. I have had cars that were 2+ MPG off of the actual calculation. So, I think that 3-tenths or 4-tenths is wonderful. I consider that a very near estimation of the actual mileage.
Of course, it is annoying how the Miles To Empty drops off like a cliff. One time, I was driving through the vastness of Southeast Texas and was on empty. I was in the middle of NOWHERE and I was sweatin' it!!!!! My Miles To Empty reached zero and I was expecting to pull over. Well, to my surprise, I still got another 13 miles when I finally reached civilization. So, I think they are just a tad conservative when it says there is ZERO mile left till empty. THANK GOODNESS!

Brian,
all diesel X's have 44 gallon tanks... u can probably get more in if you fill REAL slow once it clicks off and watch for the fuel at the filler neck, but I wouldn't think 12 more gallons !!!!
U can get a guesstimate of instantaneous mpg by reseting the overhead as u drive...
Impg is not a real in demand feature, so the mfgs decontent that...
So, does that mean I can accuratly report that I got 99.9 mpg on a 12 mile trip down Pike's Peak ????

Thank you!!
Ive noticed that mine does some things unlike alot of them...Im not sure what I do different, but Ive consitantly gotten 12.5 in town, stop and go with lots of sitting at lights, and a consistant 13.8-14.2 on the highway @ 70-75 mph. Im a 4x4 with the 4:30 rearend...the only thing that Ive done mod wise is the dual cat-back and a drop in K&N, and swtiched to Royal Purple, and a K&N oil filter.
I couldnt be happier with my Ex...its definately by far the best vehicle Ive ever owned!! Oh and just wanted to extend a HAPPY TURKEY DAY to everyone in here!! I wish you warm thoughts and hope you all enjoy spending time with the loved ones, and those special someones!!
Take care everyone!!
