Hi
I havea 01 Excursion with 50k on my PSD , lately it has been bucking at or about 1400 rpm when cold.
I recently changed my fuel filter and drained the water separator, thought that might be the problem, helped a little. I added a bottle of chevron injector and anti gel additive, really didn't help. When it gets up to normal operating temp the bucking is hardly noticeable.
Any Suggestions will be welcomed.
Thanks

I wanna say injector or the EBV closing but without a code scan it'll be somewhat hard to tell.
About time to add a 1/2 oz of Biocide with all the rain we're had lately.

I shot you an email as well

You should be OK on injector until about 100K. Could be something timing related CAM shaft sensor or maybe fuel pump. If you have already checked the fuel filter, and cleaned the water seperator then maybe a trip to Ford to see if the ECU is up to date. Unlikely but you never know. This should be a free service. Just ask them to run your VIN to determine if the ECU (Engine control unit ) is up to date.

Are you see more black smoke then normal? If something (sensor) is border line that might be a hint.

Cheers

Hi
I just replaced the fuel filter, air filter, oil & filter, put a bottle of Chevron fule injector cleaner and anti gel additive. I'm not getting any black smoke, and when it does get hot it runs much smoother.

Hi again
I have not flushed my cooling system , but I have kept up with the coolant anti-cavitation additive. Would you recommend changing the thermostat when I flush the system in December?. It can't be all that much time and money to replace it during the flushing process, can it?

Changing the thermo isn't all that bad at all and should take around 30 mins, when you have the coolant drained from the 7.3L this is a good time to upgrade a couple things while in there.

http://www.dieselsitetoo.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=186

And a dual alternator hose to go on the outside of the serpentine belt rather than thru it,you'll want Gates Part # 22433 runs between $10-14,don't forget a pair of screw clamps to upgrade from the stock clamps

I've done those three and would do it again

Shouldn't have any effect short of the PSD taking forever to warm up. It would be no different then driving your X when the PSD is cold or not at Normal operating temperature.

MMMMMMMmmmm maybe change the spark plugs just kidding!

Nevered used the Chevron fuel injector cleaner before or the anti gel. Maybe something is fowling the injectors. Having said that, if the injector are clogged then warming them up shouldn't make that much difference. I'd call your located Ford service centre and ask to speak with a diesel tech.

I like that one

Sounds like a little bit of work but perhaps dropping the tank to check the fuel pickup foot to see if the screen is clogged? I'm trying to think of what else could be the blame for the prob.

I use Power Service http://www.powerservice.com/dieselfuel_supplement_cetaneboost.asp for our Diesels, just a thought.
