Hello Gentlemen
Does anyone know it there exists the wiring ready in the chessy for the lights on top of the truck ( I am not sure what they are called ) ? I have to install those here in Europe as the truck is wider than 2.1 meters. And I can not use the original lights as they are not E-standard.
I have to install top corner lights to the rear as well. Does anyone have any experience of those please ?

btw. I installed Webasto engine and interior heater. A must in this climate. Hint for Canadian members. Works with your mobile phone as a remote control or you can use the normal remote or timer. Uses diesel. Price abt. 2000 USD |

Jukka,if you're talking about the 5 amber roof clearance lamps that go across the top of the roof just behind the windshield glass, you have to hard wire the lamp harness into the running lamp switch as there is no plug and play connection as more commonly found on the Superduty pickups.
The top rear corner lamps I'm sure aren't that troublesome to install, just tap into the circuit from the third tail light or the lower two, depending if they have to be illuminated all the time or only when braking.
I and others can assist you in getting the X up to par
Webasto heater in an Excursion it must be abit chilly in Finland
Here's my X with the Top amber lamps, BILL

I don't believe there is any pre-existing wiring in the roof area for "clearance lights." I say that because of another post talking about installing clearance lights, and it mentioned having to fish a line down the A-pillar (and the installer used weed-trimmer nylon line for fishing the line). In regards to lights at the top rear corners, there is no wiring already in position there. The front lights can be connected to the brown wire on the back of the dashboard light switch. The top rear lights can be tied-in to the running light lead at each tail light.
This is a subject I've followed from time to time because I wish to install the Ford OEM sun visor with integral clearance lights, and I've given some thought to adding clearance lights at the rear. |

Thank you Sirs for the answers. This was exactly the information that I was looking for. The clearence lights have to illuminated all the time, front ones showing bright light and rear ones showing red light. Our law. X is in truck category here due to its size.
I am going to install only two in the front corners and two in the back.
And yes, it is cold up here. I keep webasto running one hour before I start - wouldn't most likely even start without.
Thanks again

I have looked long and hard at the roof lights and I think Im going to go with the new Dodge roof lights and then im going to tape them off and paint the back half black to camouflage the lights, I dont like the big Ford ones. I have even thought about little LED type, I just want low profile in the day and bright as the sun at night, I think this will be the way to go..... Ill keep yall posted
It really is all about size!!!!!! |
