Anyone know of an easy way to modify the fog light switch so they stay on even when the high beams are on? Assuming that everyone else's work like mine, the fog lights turn off when high beams are activated. Also, fog lights don't turn on unless headlights are on...period. I'd like to run them with the running lights only. Any tips/tricks? Thanks!

Before making this mod, you should check your state statutes. Some states, like Virginia, make it against the law to have the high beams and the fogs on at the same time.

Not bad advice....Here in MN, while it is illegal to drive with your brights AND your fogs, it is not illegal to drive with your "parking" lights and your fogs.....Curious, eh?

Any way, as far as your hookup goes, shouldn't be too hard. The hardest part, IMO, would be disconnecting the fog wire from the light switch and installing a second, auxilliary switch and adding power. Unless of course you wanted to keep the original look. With that in mind, me thinks all you would have to do is connect your fog wire from the back of the light switch to the headlight wire. I haven't been back there (behind the light switch on my X ) yet but I would guess it's close to the same as the other Fords I've owned.

Again, shouldn't be too hard but I've never done it so.....FWIW...That's my 2 cents...That's alls I'm sayin'...

I drove In MN for 3 years with my highs, lows, and fogs on (in my contour), and my little sister still does with no problems with the fuzz. It was pretty simple to do, I pulled out the light switch, cut one wire and hooked it to another, and that was it. There is a howto on www.contour.org that may be helpful.

I didn't mean to imply that it can't be done, just providing some legal parameters...The chance of getting caught are awful slim, especially when MN is ranked 49th in the nation when in comes to Troopers per capita / motoring public. However, with that said, an oncoming vehicle passing by with the brights on (forgetting to dim) is annoying / aggravating enough. Add the intensity of a decent pair of fog lights to the mix and it's downright dangerous for opposing traffic.

Think about the number of times that you have been slow to dim or have realized after the opposing vehicle passed by that you forgot to dim completey. Were you focused on driving, intently watching for deer/ road debris/ pedestrians, etc. that required the extra illumination in the first place????? Or were you busy talking on the cell phone, singing to the radio, talking to a passenger, dealing with the kids in the back seat, etc.?

I'll get off my soapbox now but makes a guy (and gal) think. If we are so intent on seeing what's up the road (or in deer country / what's on the side of the road) as we drive along, let's pay more attention and get rid of the distractions. But heck, then I'd have to throw away my GPS, GSM cell phone, and DVD / TracVision screen

Moral of this post: Just remember to dim your lights and the "fuzz" will never catch you....

As interesting as the idea is, I haven't been impressed enough with the fog lights to "want" them on either way.
I think since new, I have only turned them one twice. They are so pathetically dim, that I laugh when I think about them (even right now). They are so rediculous.
I can BARELY notice them when I turn them on. I would have better results shining my LED keychain flashlight out my windshield!
If they didn't have that wierd plastic mounting "housing" assembly, I would have RIPPED them off and out in some REAL lights.
But, haven't figured out how to mount REAL lights where the huge fog light housing is.

J-D, if you replace the OEM fog light bulbs with Sylvania Silverstar 9005's, you will be much more impressed with the fog lights.
