I decided yesterday to go ahead and try painting the (3) plastic grill inserts. I didn't like the grey, so now they're all glossy black. And yes, it looks dang good!! This was my second easiest mod so far. It takes a little patience because you are working with plastic and paint, but anybody can do this one and it doesn't cost much. Just F.Y.I., the side pieces come out the front of the grill housing and the center pops off the back-side. Use a small screwdriver and be CAREFUL! I left the FORD emblem in the center and taped it up before painting. It has nuts on the back that come off, but the threads of the bolt were wedged in the flimsy plastic and it looked and felt like it would break easily if I tried to force it, so I left it alone. Other than that, give yourself some time between coats of paint and a little drying time and it will come out lookin good! |

Yea, there's a lot more I want to do, but I have to limit myself.......or someone else will "HELP" me with my spending!!!! Oh, and on the paint mod, I also painted in around the radiator and support bars while I had the grill removed. And it really does look "MEAN"! |

I have been holding off on my grill until I am able to find the diamond mesh grill that I am wanting. But after reading your post I said what the hell and went out and got myself some oxford white this afternoon. Took the grill apart and started with the side panels and finished them and then started on the main grill then ran out of paint . So tomorrow after work I will buy ENOUGH paint to finish it. Anyways you are right it looks awsome. I my just forget about the diamond mish. By the way the Ford emblem on mine has two tabs or pins that slip into a slot on the grill. I was able to take the emblem off with now problem. I don't know what year you have, they may have changed how they attach. Mine is a 2002. |

I guess I could have included how much paint I used.....3 cans. Anyway, its good to hear that you tried the mod and liked the results. Could you send in a pic? I'll bet lots of folks would try this if they could "SEE" the finished product. |

Birdman I have been thinking about doing the white gauge face and I was wondering how hard it was to do. |

I was trying to figure out what to do with my grill. I wanted summer & winter protection, so I looked into some of the mods that the superduty guys were doing but the X grill just didn't lend itself well to those "screen" mods. On my trip up to Canada over the Christmas holidays I noticed that 30% of the superduites up there had a stainless screen that was fitted over the grill. I looked into them for the X and found out that with the exchange rate working in my favor it was about $100. They come in both Black and polished Stainless Steel. The brand is Cloud-Rider, see them at: http://www.cloud-rider.com/ford_screensnav.htm
Easy installation, about 20-30 minutes and I just leaned the grill forward enough to get my hands back behind there. I choose the Stainless. It looks great! I suppose that you could get the black powdercoat and paint them the same color as your truck. When mine gets all pitted from sand and rocks it'll probably get a paint job.
