Thanks to all who shared information with me! I spent alot of time trying to find out if there is a factory amplifier and THERE IS NO AMP, the system is driven by the headunit only(at least on an 04 Eddie Bauer). I completed the install last night. There is alot of good and bad info on the net about the audio system that contains the dvd, steering wheel controls, rear audio controls, and 6 cd in dash. I decided to keep the 6 cd in dash and retire my old clarion. I used a line converter from David Navone( www.davidnavone.com ) and tapped into the wiring harness that plugs into the head unit. I ran monster rca cables from this to a 4 channel rockford fosgate amp. This amp has a pass through rca plug so I ran an rca plug from this to a JBL mono sub amp. Both amps fit perfectly under the second row driver side seat. For now I'm using the dual 10 inch sub box I used in an 04 Ford crewcab which fits right in the behind the third row bench. It has 2 Polk 10 inch momo subs. I replaced the 3 pairs of door speakers with Kenwood 6889ie speakers which are dirt cheap on ebay but sound excellent. If you do this project, use the David Navone converter! It really raises the signal voltage of the line signal running through the rca cables. In fact, I had to adjust the input on my amps down because of the increased signal(This is very important). I got to tell you, the system rocks hard!! I'm so glad I kept the factory head unit so I could retain the various functions like dual play and the steering wheel controls. I did have to snip a few wires and crimp connect behind the dash but so what? When I trade in, I'll just take out the line converter and reconnect the stock wires. You definately will need a wiring diagram for the J3 and J1 factory pin outs. I was told so many different things by the so called install pros that in the end just didn't apply at all. The local best buy installer is still trying to locate the amp he swears is somewhere behind a rear panel....... |

Good to hear you got the issue resolved with the amp in question
Now there would definitely be a remote stock amplifier if the stereo system was the Mach or Bose
The guy at Best buy is still looking for the amp in the rear panel, that cracks me up
