Just to let you know, my Excursion is in the shop today to repair a flawed fuel level float (or whatever it's called).
I filled up the tank the other day but the fuel gauge never moved off empty. It took 2 days before it FINALLY started moving up. A pretty smart Ford technician told me that this is a VERY common problem. He says that whenever winter rolls around, and fuel companies start adding sulfur to the fuel, fuel-level measure-thing's (or whatever they're called) INSIDE the tanks of the Superduty's and Excursion's get clogged or jammed.
The tech said that his dealership had already done about 250 repairs THIS winter. And, the two other lcoal dealerships have the done the same amount!
Just wanted to let the word out.
PS.... I am not sure if this ONLY applies to Diesel....... although, he did say that GM is having the same problem with the 03-04 Vette.

UPDATE: The Ford guy just called me and said that the problem may be solved by a software update. WHAT? Can a flash remedy a problem with the fuel gauge?

First I've heard of this remedy....
Have heard of problems with fuel levels if you leave the key on (which mine has experienced) and THAT should be "fixable" with software...

UPDATE: Well, after being without my X for an entire day, I showed up at the dealership to pickup my repaired X. Turns out, the dealership gave my X a flash update but it still needed a new fuel level lever thingy. But, the darn dealership didn't even have the part, so I drove away with the same problem.
BUT, since then, my X has been driving like speedracer! That flash update MUST have done something!!!!!

All,
I don't know what the details of this problem might be, but for a fact our '02 4x4 Excursion fuel gage was suddenly stuck on full earlier this year. Once I dropped the tank I found the float had lodged behind one the two wires from the sending unit. Stupid design and poor quality control, and I can't imagine how much dealerships have potentially soaked customers and Ford to fix this... Other than the pain in the you know what to drop the tank, the fix was one tie wrap, which should have been done to begin with. Since doing that things have worked beautifully, no software flash required.
Regards,
Phil |

Depending on the ECU program your X had , the update you received could of made many changes. Ford has tried to return the 6.0L back to the orginal perfomance when the 6.0L was first introduced. Chances are the program you had was one of the many programs Ford created. Ford's latest program returns the 6.0L close to is orginal performance. Simple stated, great performing stock engine.
Glad hear your truck is running great.
Cheers
