I am looking into a new wheel for my X, but I need to make sure it has a sufficient load limit. They are rated at 2100 pounds (each rim).
Does anybody know what the load limit is for the factory rims? I reckon if these new wheels will hold as much as the stock wheels, I'll be okay.

Those wheels actually may be OK load-wise, but the manufacturers' lawyers have lowered many wheel ratings simply to be on the safe side. Your X is close to 8K# now. Add in the standard payload and/or 8 adult passengers, and you'll have no recourse if you ever suffer a wheel failure.
I had a similar problem when I bought American Racing wheels for my F350. The wheels limited my GVWR to 8,400#, but the F350 was rated at 10K#. I installed some Panther wheels on my X, and they're rated at about 3,300# each. Got 'em off eBay for only $75 each + shipping ... 'twas a great deal. |
