Caught a landyot thread on another board--I gather you prefer 10W30 vs the 5W20 (never made sense to me). I have been using the Ford semisynthetic with a TufOil chaser. I wanted to change to Mobil one but in their best Christmas story tone of the famous line "You'll shoot your eye out. kid!"..I was told "You'll void your warranty Pal!!" I Mobil one has a regular 10W30 and a truck/SUV oil that's a 5W40. Since I have a V10-I've not been looking for this but they state on their web site that it's good for diesels too.(I'd hate to pay for that change!) Anyway--any suggestions for the V10--just turned 64K?
Thanks

Please allow me to expound on my reasoning for using 10W-30 versus 5W-20, same as I did on that other board. When I first bought my 2001 LTD 4WD, I was surprised to find 5W-20 as the specified motor oil. My first impression was that the 6.8L V10 must be built to tighter tolerances and clearances than most other engines. I found that not to be the case. I was once directed to an article which went into great depth as to the story behind the 5W-20 spec. Bottom line? Even though the X is not required to post MPG ratings when sold, manufacturers are trying to squeeze every last little tenth of a MPG out of each vehicle because it helps their "fleet average" numbers. Another interesting note is that the manufacturer's specified motor oil for the X in other countries (countries where 5W-20 is not available) is 10W-30. I prefer using oil that's a little heavier than sewing machine oil. |

Mobil 1 also makes a 5W30, I just bought 10 quarts of it for my V10 last night at Wal-Mart. Any reason not to use it? Wal-Mart only had 5W30 and 10W30 available.
Thanks,

Im just gonna put my .02 in, I have run everything they make in my other pickup....10w30, 10w40, then I bought the Ex...I did my 1st change with 10w30, my mpg went down 2 then went to Royal Purple 5w20 and have had good luck with it, got my 2 mpg that I lost back and gained an extra 1.5. Landyot is correct, the V-10 is a pretty "loose" engine, but If the 5w20 isnt availible, I use 5w30 with no issues at all!
