Hey guys,
Last week I was up in New England on my '01 PSD X. One night it got down to about 12 degrees F. Next morning was a little difficult to start but got her running - no prob. As I was pulling into my brother's driveway next day, just idling, she knocked off. Threw it in neutral and she fired right back up. It was about 20 degrees at the time I guess.
Went to Walmart and got some anti gel and threw that in. Ran fine for rest of evening. Started OK next day and ran fine. Then it knocked off again later that day. Same thing - at idle. Put in neutral and she fired right back up.
Warmed up later in the week, then I drove it all the way back to NC without further incident. Ran GREAT! Almost 2,000 miles on her in one week.
Any ideas about the two knock-offs? Not a big deal because she fired right back up, and no 'check engine' lights or anything like that.
Running fine now, just a little curious if anyone else has experienced this.
Thoughts?
Thx.

It sure sounds like a Cam Position Sensor to me but I may be jumping the gun The CPS will shut the engine off without warning but it can definitely be a finicky bugger.
7.3L's are prone to bad CPS's.

Hey!
Thx for the quick reply. I went thru all the CPS posts recently. I hope this isn't what is going on with my truck. If it is the CPS, do the knock-offs get more frequent and more troublesome ( to restart?)
I'm now wondering if I might have picked up some sketchy fuel. I got fuel at some Mom and Pop place in Rhode Island.
How hard is it to drain the fuel filter?
I'll go check the manual now.
Thx.

The plastic fuel drain lever is on the side of the fuel filter bowl, the steel tubing will route to the front right side of the engine, you'll wanna put a couple foot length of 3/8"s ID fuel hose on it to drain into a quart bottle cleanly.
If you're gonna drain it might as well drop another filter in the puppy.
If you did happen to get a bad batch of fuel that could be a possibility.
You state "knockoff"is that another term for engine stalled or engine stop cold turkey?
