I'm looking for ideas on doing 2 lcd screens in my '00 X. I was looking at the audiovox 1181386 custom console but dont like the 7" limitation on the screen size. Anyone done something similar to this?

You can easily do a dual screen setup, but it will not look as clean and OEM as the Audiovox console. Plus 7" is actually more than large enough in an enviroment where you are within 2 feet of the screen. I install many audio/visual systems as a hobby, and all of my customers love the 7" screens. I am in teh process of finally getting my own X done. I am installing 8 headrest monitors, 2 flip downs, and one indash. should make a for a pretty cool light show at night! I will take pics as the process goes along and post them.

I am leaning toward the 7" screens but you know kids, they wont be happy till I figure out a way to get the 65" HD in the X. Spoiled!!!!
What do you know about the Audiovox console? Will it only hold the VOH screens and not the VOD with the built in DVD? My experience is limited when it comes to doing something like this. I have a tendency to brake more than I fix when working on cars.

The console will only hold the VOH screens (stand alone monitors). I always recommend steering clear of all-in-one units anyway, as they are more prone to failure. If your stand-alone DVD player were to go out then it would be a simple task of just removing it for repair, or replacing it. Once you have completed installation of any audio/visual work in relation to the headliner you never want to have to return there, as it is very labor-intensive work.

As far as you installing this setup with no experience.... this should not be a problem with a vehicle specific console such as the Audiovox unit. Just take your time, plan for an entire weekend so that you have tons of time for confusion and mistake time. Most importantly have fun, you will have a heightened sense of pride in knowing that this wonderful job was done by yours truly.

If you need any assistance at all through the process, just post your questions here and I will get back to you usually within a day. Also if you would like to have someone available during your actual install just let me know and I will throw you my phone number so that you get real-time support if you get stuck.

I will also take this opportunity to extend this support to all forum members.

gistecknician:
In the 2005 Ecxursion with the factory dvd system are the audio wires coming from the dvd player to the head unit hard wired or are they RCA? I'm hoping they are RCA because that would mean the head unit would have AUX INPUTS. That being said,, if the wires are hard wired can they be fitted with rca connectors (I have an after market Sony that has AUX Inputs that I would like to install and connect the factory dvd too.)

gistecknician,

OK heres the deal. I decided that i wanted to go with the audiovox:
1181386 - Excursion Dual LCD Overhead Console
1183214 - Ford Excursion VCP Console
VOH703 - Drop Down LCD and TV Monitor (2)
AVD400 - Slot Type DVD Player

and i started looking a cost. I noticed no one carries the excursion custom consoles so i emailed audiovox. They said they have stopped manufacturing the 1181386 and 1183214. so where am i supposed to find these? Any alternative ideas?
