Depends on what you're after...
BUT.....
If you don't have a rear sway bar, for about $140 a helwiig will allow u to corner with the best of them....
The stock shocks are marginal at best... MANY different opinions, but I went with Rancho 9000 adjustable and love them soft puppies on setting 1 and the tires aired up to 65 lbs....
Good reports about Bilstens too...
And one of our fearlous members, Landyot has 100's if not 1000's of satisfied customers with his Radius rods...

If you're looking for an inexpensive alternative, check Fruit Ridge Tools dot com. They advertise Gabriel shocks (I think they're returns, closeouts, and discontinued) and sell on e-bay also. I've dealt with them twice and they've been reputable but they don't always have all part numbers. Look up the part numbers first in the Gabriel on-line catalog to make sure you buy the correct parts. I just installed 4 Gabriel gas shocks from them on our Excursion and the whole set cost me less than one Bilstein. I'm sure they aren't equal to the Rancho's, Bilstein's, or Edelbrock but they are 1000% better than the stockers that I removed.

ok replace the shocks as mentioned above and you might want to get a small saw and cut 1/2 the front bump stops in half...they have about 5 ridges in them. That will give you more suspension travel and NO cost. Cut only a 1 or 1 1/2 inch off of it. This will stop those harsh rebounds that you incounter when the suspension moves more than a 1/2 inch

Are the Gabriel shocks as good as the higher end stuff mentioned above? If not is there that much difference in the performance? |

I really need to replace the stock shocks on the X also. This weekend with the warmer weather I crawled under for the first time to have a look . I was very suprised to see that 1/2 to 1inch of room on the front springs before the rubber stops hit. Is it really ok to shorten these? I had the same thought that if shorter the amount of hard slams should decrease.

Got*,
yes... did it on mine...
the pogoing was much less pronounced...
but if you go TOO fast you will still "bottom out"...
trimming them just stops the continuous pogo effect...
and u only get it on the WORST dips/bumps...

Thanks JohnBoy! But while the radius-rods will get rid of that "jittery" feeling in the rear suspension, sales figures are nowhere near that high. A hundred kits have not gone out the door ... yet. |

I just put Pro Comp's on mine, I got them from 4wheelonline.com, you get a free upgrade from ES3000's to ES9000's, I got all 4 plus a steering stablizer(ES2000) for 183.56-that was plus shipping, they were great to deal with and I had them in 6 days. I wil be posting a how 2 here shortly!! I dont have the rear bar on yet, but thats the next thing to do!
