Running power out to the new 10x20 storage building....
got the underground 4 conductor (sic) wire run out there and buried...

(Sometimes a water logged yard is a NICE thing !!!)

Haven't made it live, wanted to get everything done in the building before that....

Simple stuff - but still something I don't do, so I don't know
4 conductor red, white, black, and ground from house to buidling...

WIll only have 3 things out there !
1) An exterior motion activated photocell operated light outside that I want hot all the time...
2) ONE receptacle for "stuff" (nothing of any high power draw)
3) and one switch for the interior light....

That's it... Simple right....

(it is if you know what you are doing )

SO... here's my take on it
(probably wrong )

only need black, white, and ground....
bring those 3 into receptacle box...
(the receptacle I got has place for 4 whites and 4 blacks...)

Tie ALL grounds together and then to switch and receptacle and light ground screw...

tie house black to black of receptacle
tie house white to white of receptacle
(does it matter which one ? top or bottom? guess not since it's hot all the time...

Use the other white and black to go to outside light that will be hot all the time....

Then? I run into logic problems

run the house black thru the switch to the interior light
and the house white straight to the interior light
and that's as far as I can go

I can make your computer dance, but I'm not a lectrician....

Appreciate the help ...
before I glow in the dark

I know this is simple and can do it, but just want to be chure

JohnBoy,

How do you plan to wire it up on the house end? (220?, if not then why is there a 4 conductor cable?) What guage wire is going from the house to the outbuilding? Sounds like you need a sub-panel in the building. I'm not an electrician but I think you need to find one. Sorry to give you bad news.

Thanks for the response. !!!!
After thinking about it (actually resting a bit , LONG weekend !)
I was making it more complicated than I had to....

The switch threw me a logic curve... glad I don't do THAT for a living
(actually most homeowners are glad I don't wire their house

simple if I take the switch out of the equation at first...
just hook up the black to black and white to white and ground to ground on all and I got it...
then put the switch on one leg of the interior light and it breaks the circuit for just it...

pretty simple - even for us lectric challenged commoners

No 220 needed -
the 4 conductor was the only 200 ft underground cable they had when I went to get it...
so I got it !
