I've been toying with the idea of replacing our minivan with either and Excursion or a Suburban for a year or so. I love the idea of the diesel, with its benefits in mileage, towing, and resale. Not available on the Suburban. And the added room in the X is nice too. We're mainly going to be hauling kids and all the toys that go with that, with a trailer down the road once we recover from the hit of buying the truck.
I'm leaning toward the Excursion XLS 4x2 - seating capacity is a significant factor for us with 4 kids and friends, and the front bench seat gives us 9 positions. I want to keep the cost as reasonable as possible but have a very useful vehicle. Any options that are must-have or ones to avoid? I have a quote to order one for invoice minus rebates - are there much better deals out there?
Sorry for the newbie q's - we want to make a solid decision! Thanks! |

Welcome to the forum ... the "X-Files"
Specific options? If you eventually plan on towing, avoid the 5.4L gas V8 (too small), and try to get the extendable (moose ear) exterior rear-view mirrors. You can also check out this website's FAQ section (link below). The diesel may last a long time, but its extra expense & maintenance costs will pay for a lot of gasoline in a gas V10 model (usually over 175K miles worth of V10 fuel). Also, if you make a lot of short trips, the diesel is not a good choice 'cause that engine takes a while to get up to full operating temperature.

John,
I got an X last summer because the family no longer fit in our Windstar. No regrets at all. It is weird when I get in the Windstar now, can't believe how small it is now. |
