TIA
Tom

Ok so is this wander people are talking about, the over easy steering around curves? Mine seems to be really light in the steering wheel. I was wondering if this could be cured from a new steering stabilizer.Im used to a truck with training wheels you know...LOL and I fly around corners in my dually...gotta feeling it aint happening in the EX though... It really rides exceptional and I am thrilled to own this rig..man talk about a family cruzer!!!Gonna check a bunch of stuff out on it today and do some tinkering. I am planning the following, crankcase vent bypass and cleaning the entire intercooler system out, gut the ebpv, power pedal mod, afe intake or maybe a tymar, 4 inch exhaust, mild chip..maybe 50-75 hp,new T/C and shift kit and hopefully a DVD with 10" screen..oh and "v" springs if I can get Barrett to send them to me..BTW Barrett I believe you can send them to me via UPS by just putting the shipping label on the spring and I think we can send COD. I need to check! I have a good friend that works for Fed-ex and he said he sees that sort of thing everyday..

other than that all fluids have already been changed and it has brand new Firestone Steeltex tires(which I am not thrilled about but can live with for now..)BTW what is the largest width tire you can put on a factory Limited rim? I really want a squat look on it..

Anyway thanks in advance for everyones advice...
Tom

Hi Tom and Welcome to the Excursion Forums!

Here's an Excellent Article on the steering wandering tracking probs experienced with Excursions. Order yourself up a set of Landyot's Radius Rods to get going straight

I have no experience in lowering Excursions just making em higher but I know Brad Webster's Excursion is a squatter, maybe he'll chime in given the time from club activities

Your planned mods sounds right inline with what I'd do but don't forget to get gauges also!

When you get some pics of the new ride together you can add them into your photo albums here on FordExcursions.com so you won't have to use a third party service to host em

Congrats again on the new ride!

HI Tom....

did I miss where you said you had a 4x2 or 4x4 ???

Have heard great things about Landyot's radius rods, but have not had a chance to experience them myself....

if you don't have a rear sway bar - that would be a great addition to your cornering fun !!!

Had a bud that lowered his 2001 4x2 Ex and and adder wider tires and sway bars and that thing handles like a SPORTS car !

He said it was to help his 3 little girls get in it...
I said right !!!! and the Chip helps them too

Good Luck !

Yeah Tom's is a 2000 4x4 but I think Brad's is a 4x2 which will make a big difference when lowering these beasts.

Thanks for the responses guys...If I get the landyot radius arms do I still need the hellwig anti sway? Also I am thinking about Rancho RSX shocks and a rancho steering stabilizer. Am I in line with what I should get? Also how do you guys feel about the EDGE programmer and code reader? I dont want any extreme sttings and would really like a code reader..I can get it for about $325.00 or a bully dog 4 pos for 400.00. I've already gotten an AFE on order and will have my exhaust soon as well. For those who have installed a 4" exhaust.. is there a drone and is it intolerable?
TIA
Tom

The sway bar will help control the high center weight and the R Rods will control the axle twisting effect so in my opinion both are needed

The RSX's and stabilizer choices are pretty common upgrades so you're following a good route

The Evolution is a very good choice of a programmer,I'd have to say it's the most popular unit to currently,I'll be upgrading to a new EVO this summer to replace the SCMT as I'll gain the code reader/clearing features.

For drone the loudest I know of(based on X owner feedback) is the Magnaflow system, the most quiet is the MBRP,the Aeroturbine and Walker BTM are excellent replacement mufflers with minimal drone but with the near same performance of a full system..

OK so far I have the edge programmer, afe intake and a new 5" polished tip for the exhaust. The RSX shocks and steering stabilizer are on order as well as the Hellwig antisway bar. A friend of mine is building the 4" exhaust for me as well..It'll be a different truck when I finally get this stuff on!

ok so the shocks and steering stabilizer are on...still waiting on Byron to build the exhaust. Can the "steering box" be tightened up? The "corrections' going down the road are driving me nuts! It must look like I have had a six pack to anyone following behind! LOL I was thinking the steering stabilizer would cure tis but it did not.. I couldn't put the sway bar in becuase my passenger side shock bracket has what looks like a big skid plate welded to it and I dont have a torch...4 wheel parts wants $65.00 to install so I'll make an appointment. So back to the steering issue.what else can i do? I remember being able to tighten the steering box on an old chevy I had so can the same be done in this case?
TIA
Tom

The sway bar will bolt right up to those skid plates no cutting required.

The steering box can be adjusted.

It takes a 5/8" wrench and about 5/32" hex allen wrench.
Loosen jam nut and turn stud to snug up the play on worm gear. "ONLY turn lightly - DO NOT FORCE" Small 1/8 or 1/4 turn adjustments. Internal components can be easily damaged!

Best done with 2 people, having someone rock steering wheel left & right until play is removed, then back off slightly & snug down nut.
