Bill,
Thanks for taking the time to check this out for me! I saw that on dieselstop, too. My current mirrors are heated.
Does this mean that the factory TT mirrors are NOT heated? Or is this an option where you can get both heated and not heated mirrors? I assumed TT mirrors, being the more expensive option, were heated. Am I wrong?
Thanks!
Dana

I've seen the tow mirrors come heated and non. The TT mirrors I had on the 99 F550 were power but not heated,I think somewhere in late 99 or after they became standard heated.
You have the extra fundage to go with the full heated/lighted TT mirrors ?

I just called the dealer and the parts dept. told me that he didn't think that trailer tow mirrors would be a direct replacement for the smaller mirrors. Now I guess I will have to go to the dealer and look at a few of the trucks with TT mirrors to see if they will mount up. I can't see why the factory would change things like that? I think the guy didn't know what he was talking about. I could be wrong, though. Done that before.
Regarding the $$ for the mirrors. I currently have power, heated mirrors so I would only replace them with power, heated TT mirrors. Granted, I wouldn't want to get them from the dealer and pay out the nose. I would even think about getting them from a junk yard as long as they worked and were in good shape.
It is hard to imagine me having so many questions regarding mirrors, but...the guy in parts also said that lights were optional on the mirrors, too. So does this mean on the towing mirrors I have to worry about 3 options?:
1. power
2. heated
3. lighted

Yeah some of the Dealer parts counter guys aren't real mechanics just minimum wage rice burner drivers for the most part For as far the tow mirrors bolting up it's a 100% Yes now that's for the OEM and not for the China aftermarket junk.
The power, heated, lighted tow mirrors became standard on 2003.25 and after trucks but you can get the regular heated/power mirrors for like the 2002 no prob.

I would prefer a light on the side as well. I used to own a volvo, and the on the front fender under where the volvo emblem was, was a hole to mount the european turn signals. I've thought about doing that on the X (removing the emblem and mounting a side turn signal light) but am not sure what type of side light would work best. I've seen the ones on the Mercury Mountaneer, the Audi and even the BMW and Volvos. Just not sure which shape and size would best suit this vehicle. From the sounds of it, it might be less expensive to do that.

There'll be two guide pin holes if/when you pull the Excursion plates off but adding some bright LED turn lamps would be a less costly route
