Two times now I have cold started the X and the idle is as if it had a carb, and the choke was stuck shut. Running up the rpms does not necessarly clear it out ( yes there is plenty of smoke) and it seems that after a bit the computer catches up and smooths it out. Any Ideas?

How many miles are on it? Do you use named brand gas or go to a mom and pop type place? Sounds like a possible fuel injector problem...They may be clogged. Buy some Fuel Injector Cleaner and drive it hard for a few miles...
Let me know if that works...

Thanks Scott I will have to try that. It is not all the time, only two times now. The truck now has 40.3K on it. Each time it did settle down after about 30 seconds.
I have also seen the huge puff of smoke others have asked about. I get it when I start the truck and only run it for short periods, like move it out of the garage, move it back in, next time I start it to back out it blows a huge cloud, that looks like oil smoke, but in reality is more likly unburnt fuel.
