I finally did the CCV mod as recommended. Also, I re-programmed the computer with the Superchips 1705 programmer. I went with the performance tow setting and wow, what a difference. It's a completely different vehicle. The pedal is very responsive and the motor is quieter. I am very impressed. I don't plan on towing or abusing the vehicle. I just purchased the programmer to get a couple of more MPGs. I told my wife to try the Ex with the programming and if she did not like it, I would return it. She loves it! I'll let you know if there's more fuel efficiency. I still have not purchased the necessary gauges. I know I should have done this firs. Did I read a post that mentioned over the mirror console gauges?

Now for the important questions: After I did the CCV mod, I noticed a coolant/anti-freeze odor coming from underneath the hood. I looked everywhere for a leak but found none. Has anyone experienced this? Could these be the fumes from CCV mod hose?

Thanks,

David M

Hi David, glad to hear you took on the CCV mod also The fumes coming from the CCV I wouldn't say has a coolant smell but it could be possible as everyones sense of smell can differ.

I did have the hose extend all the way to just above the exhaust tailpipe exit but I discovered a lowspot which caused minor back pressure thus I cut it back to the tranny crossmember and the problem was eliminated.

Never smelled the fumes when it was above the tailpipe tip tho.

For the overhead gauge pods you can pick those up from {url=http://www.itpdiesel.com/]ITP[/url] and you can have them color match painted prior to shipping
I do have some pics of the gauge pod installed at this LINK

I did a test of removing the programming from the Excursion one day without telling the wife and she called me on her way to the office worried that there was something wrong with the truck that it wasn't accelerating as well and was abit louder engine wise

The programming was promptly re-uploaded without delay!

Thanks for the info. You are correct, it's not the coolant I'm smelling but the fumes from the CCV mod hose. I peeked underneath while the motor was running and saw the smoke. Is it normal for white smoke to come from the hose?

Thanks,

It's absoloutely normal to observe white vapors, they'll be more noticable in the evening hours and during colder weather but nothing really overwhelming

The Navistar T444E engines installed in the Internaional 4200-4700 series trucks has the same "to atmosphere" crancase ventilation system and for some reason there's more fumes present but that's the way it was designed

I assisted a friend a couple weeks ago with the CCV mod on his 99.5 F250 7.3L and we used 3/4" ID clear hose and it worked out A-Okay (Photos available)
