I recently replaced my rotors and pads at about 70K miles. I thought it was strange that both the old pads and old rotors were only worn down about half way. I never have had great braking with my Excursion and always thought it was the weight of the vehicle. Now i am thinking my brakes aren't putting out enough perssure on the pads. Anyone else run in to this? Any ideas on a bigger master cylinder or SS brake lines to improve the braking? |

Do you have to give alot of brake pedal effort to slow down? Does the pedal travel to the floor slow or fast or erratically?

It takes quite a lot of force but other than that the pedal seems normal. |

If it requires excessive brake pedal pressure,this is what dealer service states;
Excessive brake pedal effort
Brake booster.
CARRY OUT the brake booster component test in this section.
Brake booster check valve.
CARRY OUT the check valve component test in this section.
Brake booster manifold vacuum hose.
REROUTE, REPAIR or INSTALL new components as necessary

Roger,
I have a 2003 V-10 Excursion. At about 4000 miles I change pads to PFC pads and then changed 2 front lines and one rear line to S/S. The pads improved brake performance by 50% and the s/s line reduced pedal travel. Brakes are now very good - definitely not excellent.
I am now going to change the two short lines at the rear calipers as these lines are now available in S/S.
PFC = Performance Friction Corporation
S/S lines available in 5 piece set for $178. via Russell Performance Corporation |
