David,
My wife tried to start the vehicle several times in a four or five hour time span. It could still be the alarm system though.
Thanks for the information,
Roger |

Roger,
You may want to take a look at your Mass Airflow Sensor, it is located in the air intake tube just ahead of the air filter housing. I had the exact same problem with my Excursion (5.4 V , it would not start sometimes, and I eventually figured out that it was in fact my MAS. If you look at it you may find that it is dirty, if it is buy some electric parts cleaner at your nearest auto parts store and spray the hell out of the actual sensor. If you want you can use a Q-tip and very lighty wipe the dirt off after sprayed with the cleaner (AND I STRESS THE WORD GENTLY!!!). Try this out and see if it helps, it is a very easy and cheap thing to try so you have nothing to lose.
I hope this info helps, good luck. |

Okay guys,
The problem has been found and it isn't what I would have thought! The problem is a bad key! The key that is bad has worked I know. The key is intermittent but is the culprit.
Thought you guys would want to know.
Oh yeah, I found a great place to get keys for the Excursion, Ebay! Two keys are $22 shipped and you can program them youself if you have 2 good keys. This would cost you around $175 from the dealer.

Thanks for the help,

I fixed mine as well!!!!
It was my key!
I just spent my entire Memorial Weekend Friday troubleshooting why my 2001 6.8L Limited Excursion will suddenly not start!
Two years ago I had to replace the fuel pump and it's acting that way again!
I have tried listening for the fuel pump while turning the ignition on but only hear a slight mechanical "mmmm relentt" sound that lasts maybe .5 of a second.
I bit the bullet, dropped the tank and replaced the fuel filter inside the gas tank BY MYSELF (quite proud of that) but very frustrating to get it all back together 5 hours later and STILL NOTHING!!
I couple of years ago, we had Lowes cut us a chipped key. It does not get used often but I was using it today when I tired to pull my car out of the garage. It would crank but not fire.
Now, I can sit in the car, the Lowes key will crank, but not fire and the original key will start it every time!
I hope your fix is as easy! This car has 160,000 and runs like a champ
Thanks Roger for coming back and posting your findings, it really helped me out. |
